Set Up Events
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 40m 54s
Overall Rank = 162/240
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 21/26
Pre-race routine:

3 packs of Instant Grits and a glass of orange juice. Sipped a bottle of Powerade while driving to the race.
Event warmup:

Got in the water with the wetsuit on just to limber up.
Swim
  • 19m 29s
  • 820 yards
  • 02m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Swam strong enough, but kept getting out of breath and having to stop and recompose myself. Very frustrating that I couldn't just keep going like I do in every pool workout.
What would you do differently?:

More OWS practice. All I had done this year before the race was about 400 meters the day before - but that was by myself.
Transition 1
  • 03m 5s
Comments:

Lost probably a full minute getting my wetsuit off of my ankles. I need to practice this and figure it out. Tub of Crisco might not hurt either.
What would you do differently?:

Practice, lube.
Bike
  • 51m 37s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.60 mile/hr
Comments:

In hindsight, might have been able to go harder. 1st race with aerobars, only 0.1 mph faster than my fastest 12-mile sprint, but that race was flatter.
What would you do differently?:

Go a little harder - it is a sprint after all.
Transition 2
  • 01m 2s
Comments:

Decent T2, especially considering that the person next to me came in right before me and didn't give me much room to rack my bike.
What would you do differently?:

Get feet out of shoes before dismounting. Waited too late to try this.
Run
  • 25m 43s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Decent considering the fact that it was pretty warm.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Getting flustered in the water. I know that I can go the distance, but my body (esp. my breathing) wanted to rebel.
Stuck wetsuit probably cost me a minute or so.

Event comments:

Well organized race. Nice course.
