Swim
Comments: Overall, I thought my performance was above what I expected. At the start, I walked about 70 yards before a full swim. I felt a little uncomfortable and my breathing didn't take hold until about 300 meters in or so. First lap was pretty good, I hit 44 minutes. I walked 70 yards in and 70 yards back out to lap 2. Total time was 10 minutes faster than I expected. What would you do differently?: I had a terrible chafe on the top of my neck, It was where my suit met my skin, pretty rough. Transition 1
Comments: Took my time! Sat for a while, I had no idea it was 16 minutes!! I seriously thought it was 5. Felt okay getting on to the bike. What would you do differently?: I don't think I would have sped up, I felt fine being there for the amount of time I was there to get some nutrition and dry and fresh clothes on. Bike
Comments: A few clouds and the temperature got a little cold, below 65 a couple of times I am sure. I felt pretty good. First half went way faster than I thought. The help stations were not that great as far as what they offered. Gatorade/water/gels. Wish they had a little more variety. It was nice to have my ritz peanut butter cracker sandwich in my special needs bag. What would you do differently?: I think overall, I would not have done anything differently. I held back and kept reminding myself to keep fuel in and keep gas in my tank. Transition 2
Comments: WOW! I seriously couldn't believe that my tansition time was so long. What would you do differently?: Probably nothing really. Don't care that it was that long Run
Comments: Tough tough tough. Everything was fine until I hit 9.4 miles. At that point, I hit the wall. I had to think my way through the rest of the race. I knew even if I walked I would finish, but it was going to be tough. My knee was pretty busted and I could only run about a tenth of a mile at a time. Saw Jason at the halfway point and it really gave me a boost, found a snickers bar and a 5-hour energy in my special needs bag, nice to have that. Nutrition and water was fine. Rain hit at about mile 20 and it wore me out. Only rained for about 10 minutes, but it just was enough to take it's toll. Last 4 miles were very hard. It was dark, and I saw the lights of Cedar Point, but I still had to will myself to the finish line. Post race
Warm down: Finished at 9:24 pm!! Laid down on a pad, stretched my legs and got some work done on my neck. Had horrible neck and shoulder pain, also lower back. Stretched it out. Got to the hotel at 10. Shower, more stretching, bet at midnight. What limited your ability to perform faster: I for sure could have used a lot more training. But, I felt pretty good about it overall. Event comments: Overall for the price, I thought it was sub-par. The grab back was lacking, the finish medal didn't even have the right distances on the medal! Post race food was a let down. Last updated: 2012-02-09 12:00 AM
