Pre-race routine:

Up at 7:30. Got willie showered and shaved. Indoor tri so not much to pack. Had a piece of toast and butter. Took a couple r-stops and Y and I drove up.
Event warmup:

got the set up on one of the practice bikes. Studied who was going the fastest and made a mental note to get that bike. Set up My transition at the indoor track. Figured I'd just wear my tri shorts through the whole thing. Yes Mike Officer Dangler shorts. Chatted with the girls in my wave since I was the only boy. It was Y of course, Cheri and Kara both PT with me. Laurie a nurse from work and Heather fellow co-worker. Took a lap to get the timing of flip turns. Y was way down the other end of the pool. Boohoo.

Comments:

I've been working on finding a good cruise pace and conserving energy.
It felt good. Focused on keeping shoulder and head tight and push off like a swimmer not superman. One lap off of last year. I have been trying to change my stroke so I'm OK with it.
Transition 1
  • 05m
Comments:

It was a short time even with a better set up I thought. Better then last year as I got on the bike prior to start.
Bike
  • 15m

  • 31.48 mile/hr
Comments:

The preliminary scouting paid off. Bike was a good mover. Y came and took the bike by me. I worked on keeping it above 30mph. Not a real distance. Glad I had my sweat rag on since it was dripping soon. Finished well. 3/4 miles more then last year.
Transition 2

Comments:

Drank, walked and lined up.

Comments:

Goal was to beat Heather. The back up goal not get lapped by her.
At the start ran with her a 1/4 of the track. Asked her if she had been training and she replied "Yes". damn it. She pulled a head a little and established a 50-75 yd lead. After 6 laps I was holding with her. Go figure. With 5-6 minutes to go I realized I was was gaining on her ever so slightly. She turned to see where I was as we do in any race we do. I try to hide Laurie but she see me. I would gain on the corners and she would get me on the straight aways. I was ready for this to be over witha minute to go. We ended up about 75yds apart with her ahead. Much better then last year where she lapped me, Maybe next year.

Event comments:

10:00am and we were done and out. Y and I stopped for bagel for breakfast. we had fun. Not as crowded as previous years which is to bad. The RIT tri clubs does a great job for the limited resources they have.
First Tri of 2012 in the books.
