Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 26/27
Pre-race routine:

Normal pre-race breakfast of bagel with peanut butter, banana, and cup of coffee.
Event warmup:

Warm up swim in the lake. Problem was that my swim wave was the last one to start the race and I didn't end up getting in the water for over an hour.
Swim
  • 1h 00m 28s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 52s / 100 yards
Comments:

First time attempting this distance in open water. My goal was simply to finish the swim and survive and I did.
What would you do differently?:

Next year invest in a wetsuit and more open water swimming practice.
Transition 1
  • 03m 52s
Comments:

One positive of getting out of the water last is that you can find your bike easily in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Probably didn't need to spend quite this much time in T1 but didn't want to get out of the water and on the bike out of breath.
Bike
  • 3h 43m 52s
  • 56 miles
  • 15.01 mile/hr
Comments:

Very challenging bike course. Was not prepared for all the hills.
What would you do differently?:

More longer rides in training. Better nutrition plan on the bike.
Transition 2
  • 04m 39s
Comments:

Had horrible pain in the outside of my left foot after getting off my bike. Not sure if it has something to do with shoes being too small or cleat position of shoes.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 3h 19m 43s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 15m 15s  min/mile
Comments:

Ended up walking 70% of the run.
What would you do differently?:

More brick training and better nutrition plan.
Post race
Warm down:

Was exhausted at the end of the race. By the time I had finished there was no post race food or activities. Even the bike racks had been taken down and the remaining bikes, including my own, where laying in the grass.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more base training. Had just enough this year to finish the race but not enough to finish strong. Next year more long bike rides, more open water swim training and more brick workouts.

Event comments:

Didnt get the opportunity to participate in post race activities but that was probably my fault due to my finishing time. Will continue to train over the winter time and will compete in another half iron distance race next year. Consider this race a success as this is only my second year competing in triathalons and my overall goal for the day was to finish the race. A learning experience.
