Swim
Comments: I did really well on the swim for my fitness and experience level. I didn't expect to knock it out of the park, and my goal was 20 minutes, or less. I need a lot of work on swimming, but I'm happy with how I did today. What would you do differently?: Nothing really, except for wear a wetsuit. I feel like the guys with suits really moved through the water, so I'm going to have to look into that. Transition 1
Comments: I murdered this one, very thrilled! No suit to take off, which is why it's so fast, then just threw on shoes with no socks, helmet, race belt on backwards, sunglasses, then I was out of there. What would you do differently?: Not a thing! Bike
Comments: I did really well on the bike, again taking into account my experience and fitness level. I really tried to stay under control and not go too hard, but at the same time, I just kept picking in front of me and focusing on passing them. I had a Gu about 3 miles in, which I think helped my race a lot. I was drinking Nuun, which tastes like crap, unfortunately. What would you do differently?: Nothing really. I need a tri bike to go faster, and keep on training, but I nailed what I was aiming for. Transition 2
Comments: I would like to save time by not wearing socks, but the one time I tried it while training, I got two blisters, so I took the time in transistion to put them on. Overall, I would rather have lost 20 secs. than have blisters right now. What would you do differently?: learn to run without socks Run
Comments: I felt great! My mile average isn't great for a triathlete, but it is for me! My fastest 5k ever is only about 40 secs. faster than this time. I felt fantastic the entire time. What would you do differently?: Not.a.thing. I really felt great; maybe I could've gone faster, but I felt really good the whole race, and I finished with a near-PR for the 5k. Nailed it. Post race
Warm down: Not much, loaded up my transition gear. Had a piece of pizza and some Nuun. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not much, just need to keep training. 6 months ago I couldn't have done this. Heck, three months ago I doubt I could've... Event comments: I'm giving a 5 because it was a fantastic event. I have nothing to compare it to, but it wasn't lacking anything I would've added. It was very efficient and well-run. Not too much. Woke up at 5:00, showered, made a smoothie and headed out the door. Got to the race about 6:40. Got my numbers put on, set up my transition area, then ate a Stinger waffle and went for a quick run.
I ran about 1/4 mile warm up at about 7:30, then went down and swam for a couple of minutes. Nothing too intense.
