Swim
Comments: First tri race swim. Thought I was super calm until the horn blasted. My heart rate went out of control and so did my adrenalin. Wow. I never anticipated the sugar adrenal combo. Took me most of the swim to calm down. Started too far in the front of the pack and felt like everyone was passing me. Next time I will start back and have no sugar until T1 What would you do differently?: No sugar before, the excitement of the race is enough energy. Start further back and keep a calm steady pace Transition 1
Comments: T1 was pretty good. I would roll my top up so it unrolls easier over my body next time. With the wet body it gets stuck and can be pretty slow. Overall pretty good. Moved up my ranking in T1 What would you do differently?: Not much, roll up my shirt and unroll it over my wet skin or wear a tri shirt under my wetsuit Bike
Comments: Great ride, the results page said I was at 30.7k which is quite fast for me. Was calm and made up a lot of time. Still had too much sugar in my mouth from the beginning. Had a pack of sports beans before the swim and a gu gel before the ride. Really not needed. Be better to have some sugar water for the ride and thats it What would you do differently?: Not much, my pace felt great and I seem to be flying by lots of riders. Less sugar. Transition 2
Comments: Felt good in T2, seemed fast What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: Run felt good, told myself to slow down a bit if it felt pushed. Runners were quite spread out by this point in the race. What would you do differently?: No gatorade, just water, Had gatarade at the water station and it was way too sweet. Again too much sugar. For such a short race its just not needed. Post race
Warm down: Just relaxed and stretched. What limited your ability to perform faster: Need to manage the sugar intake. I would eat less or later in the race. It leaves a thick paste in your mouth thats hard to stomache. Water with lemon in both ride bottles to cut the sweet Event comments: I really liked the race. It was my first and was a great intro to the sport. The weather was brutal for the bike drop off day saturday which mellowed the mood a bit. I expect with better weather it would have been more of an exciting build up to the event. Great volunteers with nice smiles. Looking forward to my Olympic race July 8. Not much, just tried to relax. Listened to some music and hung with my wife. Looked at all the gear and bikes and tried to enjoy the moment
stretched near my bike and then did a brief swim to get used to the water
