Run
Comments: Started out faster than I had planned, but was feeling good so I just tried to hold the pace. Somewhere during the second mile I started thinking that I might actually be able to beat 30 minutes. I slowed to walk for one minute during the third mile thinking it would leave me a little more in the tank for the finish, but it didn't help enough after the fast start. I hit my limit about 2.8 miles in and struggled to keep the pace from there. I finished the last uphill part fairly strong, but had nothing in the tank for the end and just coasted to the finish line on fumes. What would you do differently?: Maybe start slower and save something for the end, but that's hard to do with a 5K. I really think I just need to train more at pushing the tempo to maintain it longer. Most of my runs seem to be focused on improving distance and endurance while holding a steady pace. Post race
Warm down: Met up with a couple of friends afterward. Grabbed a zaxby's sandwich and ate the chicken tender, but threw away the bun. Watched the winner of the HM finish then headed back home. Stretched when I got home. Put on some warm dry clothes and took a nap in the recliner. Event comments: Dsiappointed with the disorganization at registration considering I registered and received a confirmation several weeks ago. The race itself ran smoothly, but I'm not sure how confident I am in their ability to keep up with runners who complete the series. Last updated: 2012-02-19 12:00 AM

Left my warm dry bed, grabbed a couple of crackers and a diet green tea for breakfast, and headed out into the rain. It turned out to be good that I arrived early as they didn't have me registered. I filled out the form again, got a number, passed on the free bag of crap and headed over to pick-up my shirt. Another good call, as I got the last one in my size. There appeared to be a lot of people who just picked up their shirts and left.
Watched the HM people start their race and then complete their first lap around the mall before heading out into the neighborhoods. I took a warm-up lap through the parking lot up to the mall and back to get the blood flowing, then settled in for the start.
