Pre-race routine:

got up at 4:30
Ate/drank: Can of tomato juice, two bananas, two breakfast bars, and water
Event warmup:

Nothing special, just stretched a little and did a little practice swim
Swim
  • 37m 29s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 46s / 100 yards
Comments:

The swim is a U shaped swim....5mi out, left turn for .2, and .5mi back. I did really well on sighting until the final .5mi...I was doing well and was lined up, then started day dreaming and was way out to the right.
It was also really tough with the navigating by and around people. I smacked someone really hard on the face in the last .5mi.
What would you do differently?:

Try to keep my focus towards the end of the swim.
Transition 1
  • 02m 55s
Comments:

This was a pretty good transition time. Not sure what I did differently. I did wear my shirt and I had laid out my stuff according to a video on BT, but I think I mainly kept it super simple.

What would you do differently?:

nothing
Bike
  • 3h 15m 27s
  • 56 miles
  • 17.19 mile/hr
Comments:

I was trying to go slower than last year's 22mph pace, but not as slow as the 17.2mph...I was shooting for 19mph, but my training rides were all slower than that, so I'm not sure why I thought I'd do it that much faster. I felt pretty good on the bike and did a good job of eating and drinking. I heard, "on your left" quite a bit more than I would have liked.
What would you do differently?:

Practice/train with more intensity, and maybe lift for my legs more.
Transition 2
  • 05m 15s
Comments:

I had to pee really bad on the bike - just could convince myself to stop or pee on the bike) so I went in T2, which added a few min to T2. Other than that it was fine.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Run
  • 2h 23m 9s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 56s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran with a nervous feeling about getting cramps the whole time. A few times I felt like my right calf was going to cramp, but it was just an odd feeling that came and went. While I definitely "ran scared", I was happy that I didn't cramp up. However, I was slower by 30 seconds per mile than I wanted to be, especially after the very slow bike.
What would you do differently?:

I think I will train less, but do more long rides with faster runs after them.
Post race
Warm down:

Just walked a little and then had one of the PT people stretch me out, that made a huge difference.

Event comments:

The only negative about the race were the number of cars on the course. It seemed to me that drivers were PO'd and once they were let on the road to go where they had to go, they went really fast and didn't give a lot of room. It made me think that maybe the pre-race planning and possible detours weren't done well.
