Swim
Comments: I felt 100% prepared for the swim. Lotsa training, and a good OWS at Quassy a couple of weeks ago. I dont get much OWS practice, but I have a friend who is a world class OWS'er and he trains in the pool, so blah, blah. I can swim. Lots of contact in this swim - I guess due to the chop. I got a bit disoriented at the turns, but managed ok. Like others, I was off course a bit from the wind, but I was happy with my swim. What would you do differently?: Not much. I will admit that more OWS would help me. Transition 1
Comments: Major cramp in my calf (as usual) as I pulled off wet suit and put on bike shoe. Went away fast, but brought out a major "oh PH*CK" scream in the middle of my T1. Otherwise, things went fine. What would you do differently?: Use nice language. Darn, Shoot, Ouch, etc. Bike
Comments: This was a nice bike course for an HIM. I have only done Rev3 before, and it was a BITCH! This was rolling hills, fast straight-aways, shade, etc. I liked it. I intended to go all out on this and I did. Balls-to-the-wall for me, not regard for the run. I felt like I was ready for this and had to test myself. Followed my nutrition plan - 40+ opunces gatorade, 1 pack of chomps, plus 3 Gus, plus some water - felt great. What would you do differently?: I trained extra hrs this year because I know the bike is not my best part. I need more, but this is a sign that I am headed in the right direction. Transition 2
Comments: Wow, that was a long way to run with my bike. No issues. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: I am usually better than my overall rank on run, so I guess I did not have a great run. I started with severe lower back issues, but ran through this and felt ok by mile 4. I kept a steady pace and felt like I was moving faster than most, but at 141st, I guess not. I got passed by a couple of maniacs that were super fast - must have been relayers! But overall, I thought I was moving ok. My PR for a HM is 1:33 (from April this year in HM only - not a tri) so I am dissappointed in 1:48. I suppose my extreme effort on the bike may have impacted me more than I thought, but I should have been better. Nutrition seemed perfect - small amounts of water at each stop, 2 GUs along the way. What would you do differently?: HTFU. Post race
Warm down: Did not see those Ice Baths that others spoke of - damn! Instead, I wandered aimlesslessly (as usual) staring at others who had family or friends with them. Went to Transition and packed up my sh*t. Went back to the party and ate some food and check my results. 5:17 - holy SHIT! I saw some big guy in purple and figured that must be the famous "rudedog" so I went and introduced myself. Happy I did - will hopefully bring me closer to this crazy group of achievers and overachivers in BT that I have come to admire and aspire to. What limited your ability to perform faster: Nothing - I am extremely happy with this race. Event comments: I liked this race and will hopefully do it again, despite having to get up at 2:30am. I need to figure out a way to bring my family into this, or at least get closer to others in order to experience the celebration afterwords. I am committed to this for MY OWN REASONS, but it would be nice to share in a celebration after. So, I crushed 5:59 by over 40 minutes. Certainly the course was a factor, but I trained that much harder as well. I pushed the bike to my limits and it paid off, without totally killing my run. I am volunteering at IMLP this year with an aim to complete next year's. I think this was another imprtant step toward that goal. Last updated: 2012-02-22 12:00 AM

My going in position on this race was to make it my fastest HIM by at least 15 minutes. Previously, I did Rev3 in 5:59. I heard this was a fast course, but didnt know what that meant in the context of an HIM. 5-6 hrs is still brutal. Anyway, here's my report:
Alarm: 2:30am. RUNUTS? Yes, I am a TRIATHLETE!
Made coffee, final prep, truck already packed (of course) and left.
I live in CT, so thia was a 2 hr drive. No problem. Coffee and tunes and PB Bagel, and water. Hit I495 and started wondering why I was seeing exits for Rt140 but not Rt25?? Panicked and headed down 140s thru Taunton - the LONG/WRONG way! Dumbass. Burned my cushion time but got there ok. Registered, got tatooed, set up, dropped a deuce, and got ready. Oh yeah, dropped another. BTW, Patriot should run a "Parking Training Course" for their parkers - I was locked in and could not leave until several others in the next row took off. I never like to criticize volunteers, but they were putting the West Lot cars in rows that would not allow any exit. Whatever, I got over it.
Oh yeah, warm up. I got busy talking to a friend (Dave C.) and forgot about warm up. Quickly put on wet suit and went for a swim. Glad I did it was good to understand the crazy choppiness that was out there. Then of course, I stood around for 40+ minutes or so waiting for my wave (M45-49) to go. I dont understand why we are always last (other than the duathletes and relayers).
