Pre-race routine:

Slept well and left the hotel around 5:45am. Had a few pieces of bread with peanut butter and a coffee. Got to the event around 6am. Lots of good energy and great weather
Event warmup:

Went for a swim in the ocean to get used the water temps. Water was not bad and the weather was perfect. Watched the half iron athletes swim.
Swim
  • 34m 38s
  • 1500 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Great swim. Started in last 3rd of the group. Walked to the water and took it real mellow to start. Was calm and relaxed. Heart rate stayed nice and level. Left the water feeling really good
What would you do differently?:

Not much. Would train for a faster pace
Transition 1
  • 03m 32s
Comments:

T1 felt strong. Good pace
What would you do differently?:

I would practice to ensure I forget nothing. I felt a bit of hesitation which caused me some time
Bike
  • 1h 16m 7s
  • 40 kms
  • 31.53 km/hr
Comments:

Should have transferred water bottles at the aid station on the second lap. I ran out of water at about 30k then I needed to spend the first half of my run hydrating.
What would you do differently?:

Swap the bottles. The day was very hot and I needed to drink more liquid.
Transition 2
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Decent T2. Was a bit dehydrated.
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water and then focus on race and not hydration
Run
  • 57m 51s
  • 10 kms
  • 05m 47s  min/km
Comments:

Felt pretty rough for the first 7km. Finally felt hydrated for the last 3km. Shins really hurt for first half and felt very tight. Was really quite hot.
What would you do differently?:

Hydration is critical so you can just focus on the race.
Post race
Warm down:

Had some food and drank a bunch of water

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration

Event comments:

Great race and nice volunteers
