Swim
Comments: I was just happy to be able to get in the water and get warm!! This was actually my best swim in a race so maybe the training is starting to pay off. 300 meters isn't a long swim so I just tried to go somewhat hard. I knew I was faster than I normally am as I was in a group...yeah me. Tried to stear clear of other swimmers but was just in the group. What would you do differently?: Try and find clear space and don't bunch on the bouy's. My best swim in a race so far so I can't complain to much. Transition 1
Comments: It's a little bit of a jog from the water to the transition here so longer than normal. Add a little mud and you're asking for trouble. I was trying not to slip in the mud or wet road so I went just a shade slower than normal. Worse though was my chain dropped on the first pedal stroke...bleh What would you do differently?: Maybe have bike in higher gear to reduce chance of chain dropping? The rain didn't help as the street was wet too. I'm going to practice T1 for the next race and try the rubber band shoe trick...might save a little time. Bike
Comments: Considering the wet roads I'm not too upset with the time. I haven't been riding like I should have also. What I did do wrong though was misgear at the WRONG time rounding a corner into a steep hill. I just kept clicking to a higher gear and kept going slower. Took me 3/4 of the way up the small steep hill to figure it out and by that time I was out of the saddle and trying to stay upright. Overall though it wasn't bad as I passed a lot of folks on tri bikes. What would you do differently?: Not drop a chain at the start, not mis gear a steep hill around a sharp corner, and ride more! My goal time for the bike I missed by a shade over 2 min. Transition 2
Comments: I didn't even try and get my feet out of my shoes before I stopped. I felt good though and didn't waste time in transition. Just wiped off feet, threw shoes on, grab belt and went. What would you do differently?: Practice getting feet out of cycling shoes while going slowly? Practice hopping off bike while moving. Just practice it and I'll get it down. Maybe could shave a few seconds by using yanks or something like that. Run
Comments: It's a short run and does not include the big hill by the dam. I felt great though and didn't have dead cycling legs either. I tried to kick hard the last mile. Only got passed a few people, one of which finished just in front of me and I had a 21 second lead on him going into the run. Met my race goal time for the run! What would you do differently?: Lose a little bit more weight to run faster? Keep working on the mile repeats I've been doing, and keep running after my long rides. Will improve in time. Post race
Warm down: Was handed a bottle of water, and headed to the fruit tent! Walked around to keep moving, ate some pineapple and watermelon....then headed to the beer tent:) Had two fat tire branded beers...gotta love a High Five Events race...they know how to roll! What limited your ability to perform faster: The rain/wet roads. If the roads weren't as slick I probably would not have been worrying about crashing on a hairpin corner into a steep hill and misgear it. Overall though a good race as I met my goal time in two of the three events...can't control mother nature, so I'm happy. Event comments: The event not starting on time is not the fault of the event...it was mother nature and the thunder/rain. This is a great early season race and High Five Events know how to put an event on, they are always run well. I was also impressed with how the transition area was not muddy or the run course...good job guys! I'll be back next year to do even better. Last updated: 2012-03-06 12:00 AM

Woke up WAY before my alarm because of the huge thunderstorm that was raging outside. So I slept off/on till 5am. Got up took shower, drove to event, pouring rain the whole way and just wondering if the event was going to happen at all. When I parked the rain was finally letting up a little and heard on the loud speakers that we were still a go for an ontime start.
Ontime start got pushed back by 35min because of thunder so I sat on my butt for 30 min and talked to people. Ten min prior to start wave I did some stretching and running in place to get the blood flowing and try to warm up.
