Pre-race routine:

None...we were late. AGAIN! I didn't even get to set up my transition. They had a prerace meeting that took forever. It worked out ok, though.
Event warmup:

None...:o(
Swim
  • 11m 45s
  • 500 yards
  • 02m 21s / 100 yards
Comments:

I had a mini panic attack during lap 3. I freaked out at the deep end of the pool and couldn't catch my breath. I swam a large part of that length with my head above the water. It was a very scary experience. I managed to calm myself down and finish the swim, but I was completely exhausted by the time I finished.
What would you do differently?:

Do more to concentrate on my kick. I felt like my legs kept sinking. I don't know what I was thinking about the whole time, but it wasn't my legs.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Very slow T1. I couldn't get my shirt on. Took the time to catch my breath.
What would you do differently?:

Practice and I will get it right.
Bike
  • 00m
  • 12 miles
  • 0.00 mile/hr
Comments:

It really took about a quarter of the time I spent on the bike to get my biking legs under me. The first 10 min or so were a little tough. Once I got moving, I found a "buddy" that was moving faster than me so I sped up to keep up with him. On the way back, he was cruising too slow and since I had the wind at my back, I took off. Tried to keep my speed above 40 km/hr.
What would you do differently?:

Now that I know what to expect, I can use what I have learned.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

This one was quick. Put running shoes on and was done.
What would you do differently?:

Double knot my running shoes.
Run
  • 00m
  • 3.1 miles
  •  min/mile
Comments:

My shoes ended up coming untied so I had to stop to retie them. And then I got passed by a 65-y-o lady. She was cruising...and in much better shape than me.
What would you do differently?:

Train more for this event.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around. Light stretching. Re-hydrated.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The swim. It just freaks me out.

Event comments:

No before or after activities. Lots of volunteers though. It seemed to run pretty smoothly.
