Swim
Comments: Good swim. Felt strong but not hurried. Didn't have a ton of juice to "kill it" and basically coasted off of my conditioning from IMLP. But, that said, I swam within myself and smart, I didn't get caught in traffic and enjoyed it. What would you do differently?: Mirrored goggles would have really improved the last 200 meters when I got too close to shore and swam up on people as I passed them into the sunlight. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: Great day on the bike. It was pretty brutal on the second half of the hills but still, so very pretty. I didn't make the climb up Westernport. I popped a wheelie and on a "switchback" from the right side of the road going back left I dumped over. I was 2/3 to 3/4 of the way up and though it was very tough, I was in control and thought I'd make it. I climbed well for the next hour and around Otto's Lane started to pay for the early strong uphills. I pissed my bike twice and worked hard the last ten miles. What would you do differently?: Nothing...train more after IMLP. In 2013 I'm going to incorporate jumping on a box that is 20 inches high to see if that can help explode me up the hills. Also, I am much much better at 185 than 190 which was my race weights for IMLP and Savageman, respectively. Best bike split ever for this course -- either on a training ride or in a race. Transition 2
Comments: Sat for a while messing with drinks and socks. Could have trimmed :20 to :30 seconds. Run
Comments: Ran by myself until about a mile from the halfway when I was joined by Big Al. We ran together for 2-3 miles and then he left. Best ever run split for Savageman. What would you do differently?: Nothing -- work harder the middle half -- from mile 4 to 10. Post race
Warm down: Stretching and walking waiting for Patrick and Dan. Ate my ice cream. Could not stretch hamstrings enough. Event comments: I look forward to this race every year. I've only earned one brick out of three starts. It is a great place to ride and an epic course. Last updated: 2012-03-08 12:00 AM

Stayed in a big house -- a new one for us -- on the opposite side of lake and atop a big hill. Was with Patrick Pannett, Dan Combs and Big Al St. Jean.
Woke, ate, packed and drove down to transition.
Oatmeal and chocolate flavored liquid power bar.
Very little stretching; set up bike, used toilet.
