Swim
Comments: IT was a good swim for me. I didn't push very hard so I came out of the water feeling very fresh and didn't use very much energy. I probably could have pressed a little harder but I'm fine with how I came out. I got punched int the mouth hard shortly after the start. I had a good bit of contact the first 100 yards or so. But I'll take that as good training for IMFL next month. What would you do differently?: Nothing. I could have pushed a little harder but it wouldn't have made enough difference in my finishing time to justify the extra energy it would have taken. Transition 1
Comments: My watch was acting up and it took me some extra time trying to get it working. I like all the data from my garmin but I HATE my 405 with the touch bezel. What would you do differently?: Not worry so much about getting my watch straight. Bike
Comments: I spend very little time training hills. (there are none close to me) I rode the course a couple of times in the last few months to get ready for the race. I think that was a huge thing for me. Knowing which hills to attack and which downhills to push on to get me up the next hill. I almost had a huge crash at the end of Pine Log Road. There is a good downhill that can really help you up the next short but steep uphill. I was riding about 42 mph and someone in front of me decided that they thought it would be nice to move to the left for no reason. I screamed on your left and missed them by inches. I'm 200 lbs so I try use the downhills to my advantage because the uphills are definitely a challenge. Transition 2
Comments: Had to stop by the porta-potty. Apparently I was well hydrated coming off the bike. Run
Comments: I was trying to maintain 11:00 min pace. Everything was going well for the first 7 miles. I was about a 10:45 pace. Not sure what happened. My watch quit working and that really bugged me. I really liked the flat course. IT was quite a party in the middle part of town. The crowd was great. I enjoyed this run much more than Florida 70.3. Post race
Warm down: Walked around and took some pictures with my family. I was disappointed at first when I got down because math was not my strong suit when I was approaching the finish line. I saw the time and was thinking that I was around 6:30:00. When my wife showed me my finish time, I was excited. I had a PR by 54 minutes from Florida 70.3. Going into the race 6:15 was going to be a very good time and anything close to 6:00 was going to be perfect. I'm very proud of how far I've come in the last 5 months. I got a coach after Florida 70.3 (Trevor Stultz of Kingdom Multisport) and things have been steadily improving. What limited your ability to perform faster: I still need to drop about 20 lbs. Event comments: The race was great. The only negative and it was not that bad would be the post race food. Pizza just really wasn't my thing Sunday. A hamburger would have been much better for me. The National Guard on the bike course were awesome. A special thanks to all those guys. I thought the party atmoshere in the downtown are was great. I will be back next year to break 6:00. We came down Friday morning and got the rv set up before lunch and then got checked-in. Got through check-in fairly quickly and spent some time looking around the expo. We only live a couple hours away, so we came back home Friday afternoon. We came back to Augusta Saturday afternoon in time to get the bikes checked in. We went over to Aiken for dinner and were back and in the bed by 9:00. Got a good nights sleep and woke up at 4:45. Went down and set everything up in transistion and were back at the rv by 5:30 and had a peanut butter and jelly for breakfast. Just relaxed and walked a couple 100 yards to swim start just before time to go.
No real warmup. Just some stretching.
