Swim
Comments: I seeded myself a bit aggressively for a 6 minute swim, I knew that would be a reach on a good day. With the sinus infection/ asthma flare I knew I was way more aggressive than my lungs would allow. However, it was nice to not stand over 90 minutes waiting to swim. I got passed by a total of 3 or 4 people, just let them by as I know when my asthma is acting up that the water is the first place I will feel it. Checked my watch getting out of the pool to grab my flip flops and while a little disappointed in my swim time.....I knew that was all I could do. What would you do differently?: Not have asthma would be nice, unfortunately that isn't an option. Transition 1
Comments: Ran out behind the Y, had some problems finding the rack cause my group of bikes was in the middle of the rack and the numbers were hard to find. Think I circled my rack 2 different times. Bike
Comments: I saw my estimated time from swim/ T1 heading out of the lot. Had some issues clipping in at the start but was able to get in and right up to speed. Played some cat and mouse with several different people for the first half of the course. Finally got past them for good by midway. My HRM data was averaging around 149-151 whenever I looked at it, nothing was hurting so I figured I would ride whatever I had in my legs. Felt good and just kept pedaling. When I racked at T2 my time was at 50 minutes. Holy smokes, I have NEVER ridden that fast. What would you do differently?: NADA, my best ever ride. Transition 2
Comments: Helmet off, visor on. Bike shoes off.....shoes & socks on. Sip from the Heed in my bottle and GO! What would you do differently?: NADA, a most excellent transition for me! Run
Comments: My left gastroc (the one I tore in 2010) was sore this morning, I had double calf sleeves on it to protect it. I felt pretty good heading out to run. I usually have lower back tightness for the first half mile but today nothing. My gastroc ached a bit, but it wasn't giving me any indication that it wouldn't hold up for the run. Most of the bike and run course are shaded so I was comfortable. Grabbed some water headed out of the chute and at the first water stop. Felt strong and just ran with what my legs gave me. Saw one of the physically challenged athletes on the course which was really awesome. We had three physically challenged athletes in all so that was incredible. I knew what my time was racking the bike and mentally figured I might break 1:30 on the day. I was happy with that thought and kept running, as I hit the turn around I realized I had a shot at under 1:20. Keep running. Was amazed that I beat that in the finish chute. What would you do differently?: NADA, a terrific run for me!! Holy smokes!! This split is FASTER than my best stand alone 5K!!! Post race
Warm down: Met up with Dano again, he did the aquabike division, then Larkin came in....we waited for Verga to get in. I was going to go home when I checked the results board again. REALLY? ME? Second in the AG?????? Had Dano double check that cause I have never placed at an event! Of course I had to stick around for the awards. Got a sweet transition bag!! What limited your ability to perform faster: Asthma limited my swim, but not a lot. Event comments: Welcome back to really racing!!! Last updated: 2012-03-10 12:00 AM

I did packet pick up on Saturday after a lot of running around and housework. Went to bed by 10 PM, light sleep but not horrible. Up at 4:30 ate breakfast and fixed coffee for the ride up to Richmond.
I got into transition and had a hard time finding my rack, finally found it and got everything set up. It was pretty chilly in the air so I kept my bike jacket on as long as I could.
Took a couple hits off my rescue inhaler before leaving transition, had a couple pieces of shock blocks.
Met up with a few other BT'ers pre race and we just hung out and talked. I have been having an asthma flare and didn't want to stand around all wet in the chilly air waiting an hour for my seeded swim time.
Hanging out with Verga and his wife, Danno and Larkin.
