Pre-race routine:

I had a hard boiled egg and some coffee at home. Woke up my son with only enough time to transition him to car, so he could go back to sleep! No problems parking. Found Denise right away. Got my number, chip, marked. Drank a caffeine drink (forgot the name), red something. Hung out with Denise, Mike and DZ from BT, and my son, Dylan. Took some pictures. My son said he was bored and wanted to volunteer, so I hooked him up, and hung with him at his post. It was a good spot to watch for Denise, my team member! High fived BT'ers as they transitioned from swim to bike.
Event warmup:

Stretched alittle. I hung out with Joanne and Mike while I waited for Denise to come from the bike. I was ready to get going. It's weird doing just the run portion, alot of waiting, but its really fun. You sort of feel like you got a free ticket. It was pretty chilly and I was thinking I was glad I wasn't wet.

Comments:

I almost got Denise dis-qualified. It was pretty chilly out, thankfully Denise saw the sweater I had on and thought to use it. She was putting it on while going out toward the exit of transition and I hung onto her bike while she was zipping up. YIKES. Fortunately, because I was her team mate and we stopped, and I let go as soon as we realized, it was okay. It sort of happened so fast.
What would you do differently?:

not hold onto my team mates bike while she zipped up her jacket

Comments:

This was a really great mental race for me. I'm finally thinking positive and progressive while I race. Instead of saying to myself, "you can go to a run if you need to", I think about catching up to the next person, or at least keeping pace. I think about how to run up the hill, and how to make up for it going down. Also, I had a stitch in my side and it was even a thought to walk it. This is big for me. I thought I did a better time, as I was checking my watch at the mile markers and consistently was doing less than a 10min/mile, but somehow i must have lost it in the last mile, because my pace looks to be over 10. Finish was great, I ran into Denise's welcoming open arms, and then hugged and high-fived the gang and my son.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe the stitch was not enough hydration? I can push it alittle more I think. I did try to come in for a good finish and thought I was going to toss my cookies.
Post race
Warm down:

Bent over to recover (or to toss my cookies). Drank water, took pictures.

Event comments:

Great season opener.
