Pre-race routine:

Picked up packet on Saturday bad move as the town had Aquafest going and had to park 1mile or more from the packet pick up point. Next year event is on the 8th of July so will not conflict with aquafest. Awoke after 6 hours sleep (1 hour than past races) ate a Pizza Bagle and 1 boiled egg then went to StarBucks in Kirkland and got a latte mocha.
Event warmup:

none, though I think that I will never do this again.
Swim
  • 34m 14s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 37s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started right next to dock and then ended up being right next to bouys then about 1/4 of the way into it drafted off left side rear of Dave. Never got battled and never had to site in until last 200 yards. I lost Dave after last Bouy in Triangle but still came in less than 5 seconds behind him so even though I felt I got slow after loosing him in the mix after last bouy it went well. Got a little warm last 200 yards. No rub on neck from wet suit good change.
What would you do differently?:

May be warm up a little.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Did not really rush, changed sox and tried to chat with Dave. Took a little long removing wet suit but tried to keep HR down. Long pavement run from out of water which sucked and then went to wrong rack and had to cross under to my rack.
What would you do differently?:

Better clipping in again necessary.
Bike
  • 2h 46m 20s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.20 mile/hr
Comments:

First hill at about 6 miles I smoked myself way beyond where I should but realising this I committed not to repeat and actually on major climb I smiled through it and kept the standard with out stressing mentally or physically for all the rest of the climbs.
Bad crash at approx 22 miles got alot of road rash on right face , shoulder , elbow and knee. Lost fluids and damaged helmet. Had a really good thing going until then. Was really worried having no fluids and then got to aid station approximatly 5 miles lter asked for 4 bottles. Had one chain derailment when catching Dave which I had to stop for and then after accident several like more than 10 derailments and could only fix two while riding. Noteworthy was after crash do not really remember much for atleast 5 miles maybe 8 , kept a headache for the remaining race. Broke my right arrowbar and bent left. Whenever I took my right hand off bar I would see it drop almost into my spokes.
What would you do differently?:

No choose to take a turn over double yellow line in to oncomming traffic and most off all better judge the need for braking.
Transition 2
  • 01m 39s
Comments:

Obviously was worn hard because of crash and only got one foot onto shoes prior to dismount so one shoe on one off. I took shirt off and changed into new running / riding tank because of heat and especially now because of crash. Tool sunglasses off when I crashed due to dirt and sweat. SO completed ride after crash with out and just left them in transition. Did change socks again to wool.
What would you do differently?:

Clean glasses.
Run
  • 1h 54m 39s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

Very hot at about 3.5 miles felt big hot spot on right foot on the bottom right in center of forefoot. My medial right quad was pulling away at about 2-3.5 miles and return briefly from 8-10 miles. stopped and walked at every aid station and got one 5 oz gatorade which as it went on was luke warm and another 5 oz of cold water though only a sip and then dumped on my head. Again I did not have my sunglasses on so a little stressfull with sunlight. Shoes got wet but wool socks worked well. Had fun though never got a stride until 6 - 7.25 miles but once stopped for aid station to walk and get fluids stride went away.
Stitch for 3/4 of run which totally encircled bottom of rib cage almost thought it was HR belt. My head still hurt bad during run.
What would you do differently?:

Less fluids during ride though after crash knew I needed more but over did it.
Post race
Warm down:

Had to let LAke Stevens FD irrigate and scrub wounds which kinda sucked . Then walked over to transition got changed and packed up stuff and went to grass and stretched aductors and IT so missed calfs and quad which was really needed. Left Ankle very sore intiially but once Tevas on all was well. NOTICED right third metatarsal had cutt lust forward of nail , not sure if from crash or just nail caused bny constat hitting toe of running shoe. should had clipped toe nails better prior to race.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

CRASH, though very hydrated mostly overhydrated but urin was not even post it yellow following race.

Event comments:

Little experience as first year but though IM organized would be better surprised we started in waves which was overall good with 3 minute seperation. Felt the aid stations could have been closer together on ride and all with filled bottles verses first had only cups. Water and replinish hard to find in fact did not find until 2 hours after completion.

Course: not bad not much incline until out by lake which had a long climb (approx 3/4 mile) which you went up and then slightly down for another 1/2 mile slightly then another 1.5 mile before turn around. So this happended twice , once on first lap and then second.
