Swim
Comments: Got out fast to get away from the congestion and that worked well. The swim was generally uneventful. I felt like I would PR but I pretty much matched my fastest time. I've spent 6 years learning to swim and I can't do this one below 10 minutes. Don't think I ever will. What would you do differently?: Sure wish there was a masters class in our area. There isn't so I'm left with having to be OK with the little strides I'm taking to be more comfortable in the water. Transition 1
Comments: 3rd female overall in this category! And that's with wearing a wetsuit (which most folks didn't wear). I'd rock a T1 podium spot if they gave awards for transitions. What would you do differently?: Nothing Bike
Comments: Unlike my disasterous bike in last week's tri and after finding a few things at my LBS and getting advice on my tire pressure from Jeff in the Junkies, this time my baby responded like she was made to do. With my aero helmet on and seeing just a short distance ahead of me, I got low and hammered it because I know the road well. Not a single person passed me. NO ONE! At this race they mark your age on your calf so I passed 25 year old women and 58 year old men, I passed 36 year old men and 44 year old women. I passed.....oh, you get the idea :) This 53 year old had a blast! What would you do differently?: Not. A. Thing. Transition 2
Comments: Uneventful. No issues What would you do differently?: Nothing Run
Comments: I usually start out too fast and can't maintain my speed so I wanted to get my legs under me and then work up to a nice rhythm. It worked and I enjoyed the run much more. I was passed by the first place AGer who was blazing fast. The second place AGer was already ahead of me and then about a half mile in the run a third AGer passed me but maintained an even pace. We hopscotched eachother until the uphill where she just dropped off and I powered ahead. I caught a few people on the uphill and also on the downhill and had enough energy to sprint the last stretch to the finish. What would you do differently?: Ever since I started trail running my tri run race pace has dropped off. Don't know what exactly I need to do to get it back up but I'd like to see an improvement. Post race
Warm down: Saw Allison and family and chatted a quick minute but had to walk around because I felt a little nauseated. Allison mentioned there were oranges so I grabbed a few and they tasted like heaven, giving me the jolt I needed. Chatted with Dirk and Lisa and a bunch of other folks. They only gave out podium spots 2 deep this year in my division. Bummer! Ate and chatted a bunch more then took home some gels and t-shirts when they had a free-for-all at the end of awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Just me Event comments: The weather this year was perfect for a PR. I shaved just under 4 minutes off my best time which was two years ago. This is a hometown race that I'll do until I take a top podium spot. I'm serious although it's a silly goal, I want to win my AG in this race. Next year will be my last in the 50-54 so I'm looking at 2014 as my year. :) Great race, great friends, great food...what more could you ask for? Last updated: 2012-03-24 12:00 AM

Went to packet pick up on Friday because it's only 4 miles from my home. Woke up before alarm Saturday morn and ate oats and yogurt with granola and chia seeds. Got to transition at 6 but someone was already on the end spot. Oh, well, so much for promptness.
Took bike for spin just to double check all systems were go and that's all I did for warm up. Had written down race numbers of about 40 people and wanted to make sure I saw Dirk and Allison specifically. Chatted with folks, took pictures and chatted some more. Encouraged folks and went to the bathroom a few times.
