Pre-race routine:

Stayed in the team house and was up early for coffee/breakfast and to shake off the rum from the night before. Beauty of a 10:00 am race start. Drove to the race site which was just a few miles away. Set up the TA and hung out in the tent before walking down to the swim start. Race site was new this year and I think it was better than last year.
Event warmup:

No real warm up. Shelly and I put our wetsuits on and peed in them. :)
Swim
  • 25m 42s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Couldn't really find anyone to draft off of. Arms were burning from the start. Not sure if it's just from swimming hard or the full wetuit. Uneventful swim. Tried to push it, but I always have a hard time doing that in the swim in races. Water was cool, but not as bad as we all thought. Sighting and rounding the buoys was perfect. Overall, fairly happy with the swim.
What would you do differently?:

As always, push harder.
Transition 1
  • 01m 57s
Comments:

No issues in T1. Had to sit to get my socks on. Other than that, I felt pretty efficient. 5th in AG.
What would you do differently?:

Not sit. :)
Bike
  • 1h 13m 56s
  • 24 miles
  • 19.48 mile/hr
Comments:

Made a conscious effort to push the bike. Stayed aero the entire time which doesn't always happen for me. Took 2 GUs - one a few miles in and one with a few miles left. And drank nearly 1 bottle of GU20 with pre-race. Legs felt good and while the pace was harder than I usually go, it was a comfortable hard. Overall, really happy with how the bike went.
Transition 2
  • 01m 9s
Comments:

Uneventful T2. In and out. 5th in AG.
Run
  • 55m 47s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 59s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran with my small sports bottle which helped for drinking and keeping me cool. Legs felt heavy to start, but it's an uphill run on the grass. Tried to keep a steady pace while letting my breating relax. Course was tough. Rolling hills on gravel mostly with some grass. Second loop was better since I knew what to expect. Was so nice to have all of the teammates out there spectating and cheering.
Post race
Warm down:

Crashed in a chair in the tent and tried to hydrate to avoid the typical post-race headache. Fueled a little as I was riding 2 more loops of the bike course to get more distance in.

Event comments:

Set Up does a nice job. Things were organized and I liked the new course. 12 minute PR from last year (different course this year though).
