Pre-race routine:

Normal breakfast about 3 hours before start. Oatmeal, Orange Juice, Banana
Local race 30 minute drive from house. Got to transition about 6:20 AM and set up everything. New many participants since it was a local race so spent time talking with them. Went down and watched the Sprint swimmers start.
Event warmup:

Got in the water and swam for a short distance. Talked to more people as we waited for the start. Got towards the back of the group.
Swim
  • 40m 42s
  • 1640 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
What would you do differently?:

Start with a little slower pace. Use bilateral breathing to make sighting easier.
Transition 1
  • 03m 56s
Comments:

Seemed good with the stool provided. Did not realize I spent so much time in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Set up equipment better. Don't spend time drinking water. Put on socks.
Bike
  • 1h 25m 55s
  • 24 miles
  • 16.76 mile/hr
Comments:

I brought a spare tube kit in my extra bottle space. I should have used it for water. I had one bottle of Gaterade and water mixed. Only drank 2/3 of it over the entire course
What would you do differently?:

Bring water and finish it on the bike ride in addition to the mix. Use the gel before getting off the bike.
Transition 2
  • 02m 3s
What would you do differently?:

Be hydrated so I don't need to stop and drink in transition. Think about bringing water bottle on the run.
Run
  • 1h 19m 18s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 12m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

The trail had some soft sand since the Sprint runners and most of the Olympic runners were there ahead of me. I started off with a 10:30 pace for the first mile. Ended up walking a lot of the second have of the race. Seemed to run out of steam just short of the 3 mile mark. Started walking and running. Did a lot of walking the last 3 miles but did run the last 1/4 mile.
What would you do differently?:

Run a smarter pace. Start at a slower pace that is sustainable for the entire distance.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked for 10 minutes. Drank water and ate banana, roll with peanut butter and a danish.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I think I became dehydrated while on the bike and didn't pay attention to my pace being to fast on the run.

Event comments:

Loved the location of the event. I will do it again.
