Pre-race routine:

Had peanutbutter jelly sandwich at 3:30. At 4:30 had oatmeal and a banana with a cup of coffee. Got to transition about 6:15. Waited to set up my area until around 6:55. Hoping that the concrete would dry some. Put a plastic bag under my stuff but it still was wet.
Event warmup:

Got in the water about 30 minutes before the start. Swam about 50 yards. Weather was to cold to get out again (wind)
Swim
  • 11m 51s
  • 440 yards
  • 02m 41s / 100 yards
Comments:

The start did not use a horn/whistle... The starter just said go. Really weird. It was wetsuit legal. A few wore wetsuits.
What would you do differently?:

Swam easily and did not push it at all. Will need to swim faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

Put on heart rate monitor and garmin. Put on shirt. Did not wear socks. Bike near the bike out/in.
What would you do differently?:

Open shoes wider. use a tri-suit so no need to put on shirt.
Bike
  • 40m 53s
  • 12.5 miles
  • 18.34 mile/hr
Comments:

Followed a car out to AIA. He kept changing speeds till he reached another biker and then slowed. I finally got around the car. Passed people on the ride.
What would you do differently?:

Push a little harder
Transition 2
  • 01m 26s
Comments:

Helmet off fine. Sat down on the ground to put on my shoes. Took another drink of water and ran out.
What would you do differently?:

figure out how to put on the shoes better.
Run
  • 31m 22s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 07s  min/mile
Comments:

It was cloudy so the temperature was just right. Started off with a slow pace. Caught up to a guy after the first water station. Then ran the rest of the race with him at a faster pace than I had planned.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder.
Post race
Warm down:

bottle of water.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Travelling for the previous two weeks so training was not good. Got home at 3AM on Saturday morning and left for Cocoa Beach at noon with 4 hours sleep.

Event comments:

The packet pickup line was long on Saturday. It was the first time that I had body marking the day before. Thankfully, the weather cleared for the race but the transition area still had puddles. I was glad that my bike rack did not have standing water. I did not see the results while at the race.
