Swim
Comments: Farthest I've swam straight through in quite a while. Haven't done the 1000 TT in a bit so didn't quite know what to expect. Longest I've done so far this year is 600m. So this was far. But got into a groove and got out of the water exactly when I wanted to. Saw Beth while I was coming out of the water and she told me my time. With a smile, I gave her a kiss and ran through to Transition. What would you do differently?: Not skip swim workouts? Not too disappointed considering I'm almost top 25% overall and top 1/3 in AG. Transition 1
Comments: Used the stripper. Big dude. Peeled me like a banana. Likedy split. Kind of cool. Into transition. Such a big transition. Not displeased. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Took my time knowing I needed to get my HR down before I started on the bike. Bike
Comments: There is a hill right out of transition. I went up it like it wasn't even there. Tucked into aero position and didn't leave it the entire time. Within the first 10 miles, I knew I was going to beat my goal of 3:00:00 for the bike split. The question was, by how much. On the way out, there was a bit of a head wind out of the North and West. More West. And that was the direction we were heading. So I knew if I kept up the pace, kept my cadence and HR in control (90+RPM and under 150 BPM) I would be in great shape when we turned around to come back. And we did. There were a few miles where I was averaging well over 20. I knew I was banking what I wanted. The question was, how would it translate into the run. The big unknown. Last stretch towards T2, slipped the feet out of the shoes, down the hill into transition and I was done. 2 down, 1 to go. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Did just what I wanted. Transition 2
Comments: Good transition. Lathered up on the way out and I was on my way. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Run
Comments: This hurt. I knew it would. Hottest part of the day and got hotter. Started out on the first leg out averaging well and keeping the HR in check. Walked through the water station at the turn around and started back. That's when the HR started to move steadily upwards. And I knew it was going to be a long one. Slogged through the leg back and saw mr2Tony close to the turn around. Where the "eff" is the turn around? Just a bit further. Hit the turn around and he walked with me for a bit. "I don't want to do this. I will finish it, but I don't want to". We chatted for a bit more and off I went on the second lap. Long story short, I did a ton of walking. I was finally able to get my HR down and downing water and putting ice into the pockets of my shorts and my top. It seemed to help. I was just over heating. I finally slowly jogged the last mile+ to the finish line. Crossed it, kissed my ring finger in honor of my wife who is always with me and I was done. Post race
Warm down: Caught up with the family. Got some pics taken. Ate some food and water and just chilled out under the tent for a bit trying not to cramp up. Beth was nice and got me a pack of ice to help me cool down and get my HR down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Heat Event comments: Very well run race. I'll never do it again cause I'll never do a HIM again, but they did a VERY good job. Much better than the HFP that used to run it. Last updated: 2012-03-26 12:00 AM

Woke up, had a cupa joe, a builder bar and just basically got prepared. Drove to the race site, put up the tent and set up the transition. It was much more packed than when I dropped off the bike the day before.
Nothing. Race this long, not worth warming up.
