Pre-race routine:

Set up transition, bathroom, etc. About 10 minutes prior to transition closing I realized I forgot to put on timing chip. Couldn't find it in bag, ran back to truck and didn't find it there. Ran back to transition, dumped out bag and found it. Nice way to start the day.

Comments:

I started off to the right and was off course for a while. The buoys were further left than I thought. Water was very shallow and I watched numerous racers walking at least 100 yards out. Didn't affect me but isn't this the swim portion? On the second loop I got hit by a swimmer coming back on the wrong side.

Several of us agreed that the swim was long. My goal was 30-32 minutes and I was out of the water at about 35, even with a full wetsuit. Their times were also high.
What would you do differently?:

Better navigation.

Comments:

Slower than expected. I felt that the wind was never behind me and either I was going uphill or into the wind about 80% of the race. This was probably because of a long downhill near the end of the loop. I just felt tired most of the ride.

Comments:

My first 4 miles was at a steady pace but the last 2 I was hurting. I didn't enjoy the dirt running, but we all had the same trail. My downfall is my hydration which is probably why I am running out of energy.
What would you do differently?:

Improve my hydration plan.

Warm down:

Walk around, drink fluids and eat bagels & oranges.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Hydration. I am trying to increase my fluid intake, especially about 3-4 days out. The night before I woke up about 4 times for the bathroom so I was probably dehydrated before the race started.

Event comments:

This was a new race venue. Great team running the event. Transition area used those "boxes" where you put your wheel in the slots and store your gear. This made for a very clean transition area. I didn't like the out/back swim, especially after getting whacked on the head by the guy on the wrong side of the buoy. Some traffic on the bike course but overall it was a good course. Not sure why they changed the run course to a dirt trail. There were plenty of roads in the park.

Course: 2 loops around Ocala. Some rolling hills, a few 90 turns. There was some traffic. I had to slow down due to a car slowing down for cyclists.
