Pre-race routine:

Woke up late so it was a made sprint to the race. Not a lot of time to set up transition then had to take the bus to the swim start.
Event warmup:

Swam a little before my wave just to get used to the water. The practice swim I did a couple weeks ago really helped my nerves.
Swim
  • 27m 10s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 40s / 100 yards
Comments:

My plan for swimming was to keep someone on my left at all times. I am not a bilateral breather so I wanted to keep someone in sight on my breathing side. This swim went well and I felt good coming out of the water. Still not entirely used to open water swimming.
What would you do differently?:

Work on bilateral breathing and kicking.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

This was my first race with the cycling shoes so it was a new experience. Transitions are my weakness right now. Glad a decided to go without socks because this time would have been horrible.
What would you do differently?:

Work on jumping on bike and putting shoes on while on the go.
Bike
  • 34m 44s
  • 12 miles
  • 20.73 mile/hr
Comments:

This was a great showing but I feel I could have given more. I was a little hesitant to go all out on the bike. The cycling shoes REALLY helped.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder towards the end. Relax a little when people pass when they shouldn't be, sorry guy that I yelled at.
Transition 2
  • 02m 8s
Comments:

Again, SLOE transition. I really need to work on this during my bricks. Felt good during this section though.
What would you do differently?:

Spend more time on transition management. I can do multiple things at once.
Run
  • 27m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

I know I could have done this run faster. I stopped once to drink, and I was holding back a little. I've adopted the new motto "Suffer A Little." Im going to train this off season on cycling and running. Hopefully break a sub 25 min 5K next year.
What would you do differently?:

Push more.
Post race
Warm down:

None.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Definitely myself. I could have pushed harder on the bike and run.

Event comments:

This course would have been a little easy without the long swim. This race has a beautiful venue and great volunteers. If you live in the area this is a must!
