Swim
Comments: Because I had decided to do this triathlon the night before the race, I obviously did not get a chance to enter my swim time. I knew the swim time that had been entered was slower than what I was actually going to be able to do, and I was worried about the people who were going to be in front of me. Fortunately, they had an equipment error that caused me to start more than a minute behind the person in front of me. Given this extra time, I did not catch the person in front of me until I was in the fifth lane. What would you do differently?: There was not much I could have done differently. I was fortunate to have the extra space between me and the person in front of me. I think, if given the chance, I would definitely enter a more appropriate swim time so I would be able to have a better swim. Transition 1
Comments: I did not get to rack my bike properly (I did not even know how to do that because it was my first triathlon!). Also, the suit swap was not an issue because I wore my drag suit for the entire triathlon! What would you do differently?: Rack the bike properly and put socks on before putting my shoes on. Bike
Comments: This was a very difficult bike for me. Given that I have only ridden the bike (which was a mountain bike) this distance only once before did not help. It was very frustrating to see people three times my age passing me when I was cranking the gears as hard as I could. What would you do differently?: TRAIN MORE! This was my first triathlon so I might be a little to hard on myself. But of course I'd be able to have a better bike if I had more training. Now that I have a different bike (a tri bike!) it will make things easier also. Transition 2
Comments: Because this was my first triathlon, I had no idea what to do here. I wasn't even able to get my bike back onto the rack and just wound up leaving it in the aisle with the kickstand down (yes, it was a mountain bike and it has a kickstand haha). What would you do differently?: This was a fast transition only because I didn't have to take off/change shoes and I didn't rack my bike. I literally just dumped it in the aisle and took off. Run
Comments: Pretty solid run given the fact that I had not trained at all. Considering how smoked my legs were after the bike I'd say this was a fairly good run for me. I think the fact that I was riding a mountain bike really helped in that area. What would you do differently?: Train more, of course. I didn't have any training for this triathlon but given the fact that it was only a 5K really made it easy to just muscle this run. Post race
Warm down: Little bit of walking around to loosen up. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and inferior equipment, no doubt about it. Event comments: This is a really great race for beginners. I was late getting to the race but they were so accommodating. I had no idea how popular triathlons were until I competed in my first one! Pure panic trying to get to the race on time and do what I could to set up my equipment in the transition area.
NONE! I did not know any better.
