Swim
Comments: Not so great. No one passed me, and I passed four or five people, but what really sucked were the turns. Nailed a couple of them, but got tangled into the steps in the first lane, and in a subsequent lane actually turned way too soon, before touching the wall. Had to backtrack to touch it. What would you do differently?: Practice turns, practice swimming in a 25-yd pool so I know when to turn. Transition 1
Comments: Fairly short (150') run from pool to the transition area, got helmet and glasses on easy, less than 20' to mounting line. T1 time does not include getting into shoes, which really sucked. Hit lap button as soon as I was mounted. What would you do differently?: Nothing, went smooth. Bike
Comments: Struggled getting into right shoe, but didn't get passed. Once shoe was on, got up to speed and immediately started passing others. Initial route out must have had a slight tailwind, had no trouble holding 24-25mph. Didn't get a whole lot harder after turnaround. Rider just ahead of me missed a clearly marked turn, ended up with a 27mph+ bike split until they DQed him. Hardest stretch was the service road, maybe a mile of crappy surface against the breeze, found it hard to hold 20 here, without this stretch and the fumbling with the shoe I would have easily averaged 23mph. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This was a pretty good bike split, only one other person over 40 beat my time. Transition 2
Comments: Just like they draw it up, great rolling dismount, racked the bike, stowed the helmet, slipped on the shoes and grabbed the race belt. Out of there! What would you do differently?: Nothing. Nailed this one. Run
Comments: It's gotten quite warm by now, 86 degrees by 8:30, and you can certainly feel it more on the run. Went out too fast as usual, took a while to find comfortable pace, finally got to where I could just abate the impending sidestitch and held it there. Felt a little slow, but doubt I could have pushed any harder in this heat. What would you do differently?: Wait until November to do the run, but then my times would have really sucked. Post race
Warm down: Put mouth under Gatorade spigot and let it pour. ;) Walked around and cheered while everyone finished. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim, especially clumsy turns.Still, no one passed me the whole race, not even on the run where I usually give back ground. Event comments: Well-run small event for a good cause (local boy scout troops). Event went off on time, plenty of volunteers, route was well marked on bike and run. Probably could have used volunteers at the major turn that at least two riders missed, also could use better pavement on the service road. Otherwise a great little event, good jambalaya and plenty to drink at he finiash. Won a doorprize (gear bag from Stage) which Angel immediately claimed. Plenty of yams to go around, as they couldn't give them away! Last updated: 2006-05-15 12:00 AM

Spent the weekend at my high school reunion out of town, we were at a dance until after midnight last night, so by the time we drove home and got to bed it was after 2 am, up at 4:30.
Clif bar, coffee, quick shower, load the stuff in the car and drove the 10 miles or so to the race site.
Saw and said hello to BTers Brandy, John, Chris (rugby kid) and Michael Pate (Michael).
After checking in and setting up transition, rode about ten minutes and then ran about that long as well. Couple visits to the restroom, and they were lining up for the swim.
