![]() Swim
Comments: Swim felt too easy when finished, #78 and #80 were way off on their estimate time (went 8:38 and 9:02), I was stuck behind #80 for 75m never had chance to pass. Upset me because I knew 80 was going to struggle, when looking around you can see some people and just know they aren't going to hit that seed time (sometimes I'm wrong but usually you can tell) not trying to offend people, but please give accurate times. From above, the swim looked like a lot when going back and forth. What would you do differently?: Seed myself faster, I swam a little slower than my seed time, but felt great and definitely could have gone faster. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Getting to my bike and getting shoes and gear on was easy, the run to hop on the bike was a little far and had some corners. What would you do differently?: Put powder in my shoes so my feet won't stick. ![]() Bike
Comments: At first I felt great, went out and caught a few people and was keeping right at 20mph, then I hit a big hill and they felt like they kept growing. The hills were kicking my butt and at one point I'm pretty sure I could have hopped off and walked up it faster. 3 miles out I convinced myself to pound it in and started to feel better and sped up. The course got confusing around a mile and a half out and I nearly stopped to figure out a turn, luckily I saw the cops a little further down or I would have completely stopped. Pain in lower back also came back around half way through. What would you do differently?: Train more for the bike, to compete I need to be able to average above 20mph. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: T2 went awful, I ran up to my area and I was on the end of a rack, well the guy across had parked his bike and didn't leave me any room (in my mind I wanted to kick his down, but refrained). Moved his bike, and got mine racked, then went to put shoes on and one of my insoles folded up, happened twice and third time I was going to run no matter how it went. This was also my first time racing in a suit and realized before the race that I would need to put my number on for the run and I dislike racing belts, so I had two pins in that were open so I could put them on while jogging out. What would you do differently?: Powder in running shoes and glue insole down. Hope no one parks their bike like that guy. Need to figure out a faster way to put my number on. ![]() Run
Comments: This time actually shocked me since I haven't been training for the run. It was just 2 miles and since I used to run I figured I could survive. First mile felt easy, I drank a little too much water and almost choked, but realized I should push this next mile. Apparently I pushed a little too hard as I ended up throwing up at the finish line. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Ran around a mile after eating a sandwich and drinking some water. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training, haven't worked on speed intervals besides in the pool. Also the back pain. Event comments: To me, transition/leaving and entering was a little difficult (running the sharp corners and narrow path with people going both directions). Overall it was fun and a nice race to start the season off with. I plan to return next year and do better. Last updated: 2012-03-30 12:00 AM

Unfortunately only had 4 hours of sleep. Had a smoothie around 6am, checked my bike and gear and set up transition.
Just walked and watched, around 8:15 I ran a couple of laps on the indoor track and stretched a lot. Got 50m swim in right before race time. Met Dave (handyhammer) and his team while waiting to start.
