Pre-race routine:

Got up at 3 am. Crazy night of storms. Ate a bagel, loaded up the van and went over to my friends house at 4. Dropped the kids off with her hubby. Loaded her stuff up and we hit the road by 4:10. We had a 65 mile drive to get to race site.
Event warmup:

Did a small jog, nothing major.

No issues here. Got my stuff on pretty quick and was out to the dismount line.

Bike
  • 1h 07m 57s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 21.94 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt great on the bike. No real issues. Well other than the guy that kept blocking me. It took me a good 3 miles get around him. I ended up having to do it on a corner. He was determined to ride on the left side and not let me over to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
Run
  • 48m 59s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 07m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Since it was so hot and muggy out. My plan was not to PR the run, but to run for place. Once I knew that no one in my age group was ahead of me, I ran the pace I needed in order to keep the first place. I would only speed up when I though a female in my age group was approaching, which never happened.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I have had a bad experience in the heat a couple years ago, ending up in the ambulance after a hot run in south fl. So I am pretty happy with the fact that I was able to keep a fast pace in the heat, but also play it a little on the safe side and not hammer it.
Post race
Warm down:

Lot so water poured over my head and some ice down the top to cool me down quick.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The heat. Played it on the safe side due to how hot and muggy it was.

Event comments:

I like the venue, but the weather dealt us a bum hand. I really wanted the swim to happen, but with the lightning still going on, I think the right decision was made. I do think if the race continues to put the sprint and the International on the same course, they need to work on the turn arounds and such for the two. There were a couple of close calls that should not have happened. The top guys being taken the wrong way by the motorcycle was not cool, and how it was subsequently handled was not cool either.
