Comments: I felt the drag from my tri top, especially when coming off the wall. Also seemed to always be behind someone coming off the wall. But it went OK. That time for 300M is plenty respectable for me and should be seen in light of a historic context of racing far below my training performances. What would you do differently?: I need new or altered tri tops. After losing weight, they aren't small enough around my waist. Transition 1
Comments: Transition was good. Got there fast. Out on the bike course I had some trouble getting one of my feet in and lost time....slowed to 10mph by the time I had that darn foot in! What would you do differently?: I need to practice the shoes. I only do this maneuver in races and need to intentionally practice it on training rides with my tri bike. Bike
Comments: Splits are screwed, the results show my bike place as 16, but I cancelled out the times that don't seem right and came up with 8. Surprising that I'm not higher, but lots of good racers here. What would you do differently?: I'd get my feet in my shoes faster and save 10 seconds! The course traffic control literally sucked. Major snafus. I wasn't affected, but did have to run in to traffic and ride up between 2 lines of cars stopped at an intersection, then cut between 2 stopped cars to hit the left turn lane...The RD needs to fix that problem. Comments: Legs felt bad starting out (normal) and pace felt exceedingly slow but that's an illusion having to do with bike to run transition. Quickly felt HORRIBLE, but that feeling went away as I relaxed and continued. Focused on stretching out my stride and relaxing and things got better. What would you do differently?: Be a better runner! Post race
Warm down: Walked, ate, drank, talked. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not being in race shape yet. Basically I've just ended base-building and only now adding intensity so being at threshold hasn't been trained. That's OK and according to plan. Event comments: Race has potential to be great, but problems with control of the bike course traffic and transition ins/outs crossing over oncoming traffic is just not appropriate. Nothing special. I aired up my tires before leaving in the morning and left my pump at home. One less thing to worry about (but I brought spare wheels...so was OK without the pump).
Not enough.
Got my road bike out with 30 minutes to go and rode for 10 minutes briskly.
Put away the road bike and would have run more, but Evan needed to use the bathroom and I had to wait for him so as not to lose him. Then I ran around for maybe 5 minutes before giving him all of my clothes and getting in the swim line. Not enough warm up.
