Comments: Went out very easy and got caught up in traffic - wasn't planning on going out hard in my first one. Next one I'll line up near the front and hit it hard. Didn't eat nearly enough - hit the wall after 3 hours and struggled home for the rest of the race. Quads started hurting more on the bunpy downhills (like pulled muscle type hurting). Was decending well though - not many passed me on the main singletrack downhill! What would you do differently?: Get my nutrition sorted. Try gels - if I can smash a couple of them down a lap I'll be fine. Post race
Warm down: Collapsed. Walked about 400m to the car with my stuff. Ate maccas. What limited your ability to perform faster: Not enough food. Arms/hands started fatiging badly on the last lap which didn't help. Event comments: Great course - open enough so passing was easy but very hilly...painfully so (especially after 4.5 hrs). Got up. Ate two bits of toast, chucked bike on car and headed off. Helped set up the Superstore's 3 marquees.
It's a 5 hour race...I'm not going to do a "proper" warm up. First lap is slow anyway.
