Age Group Rank = 2/10
Pre-race routine:

Up early small breakfast. fruit, bowl of cereal, small yogurt. Worried about weather considering there was 1" of snow in the transition area at check-in time.
Event warmup:

1/2 mile run and a 200 yd warm up swim.
Swim
  • 06m 54s
  • 500 yards
  • 01m 23s / 100 yards
Comments:

Got lucky with the heat seeding. I was able to split a lane so no trouble with passing or circle swims!
What would you do differently?:

A little more swim warmup. With the later heat I would drink a little more and eat something small a little closer to heat time. Felt a little hungry at the start.
Transition 1
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Transition to bike was a little slow as I took time to put on a layer underneath my vest. Putting on shoes clipped out was slow.
What would you do differently?:

Practice with shoes clipped in and getting into shoes while rolling. Layer differently, perhaps a small jacket outside my top.
Bike
  • 35m 33s
  • 11 miles
  • 18.57 mile/hr
Comments:

road condition was rough. Great job by the volunteers keeping traffic help up on the tight turns.
What would you do differently?:

Train more!
Transition 2
  • 00m 35s
Comments:

Bike transition was a little weird with a hard right-hand turn into the dismount area.
What would you do differently?:

remove helmet while running. loosen shoes earlier.
Run
  • 22m 35s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Trail was a little muddy and slippery.
What would you do differently?:

Run the course prior to the race. Up the pace a little once I had figured out where my energy levels were.
Post race
Warm down:

slow jog around transition area. light stretching.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

not having a better understanding of the run course. Not enough bike training (climbing out of the saddle on a couple of easy hills).

Event comments:

Lot's of fun for my first Tri in over 15 years.
