Pre-race routine:

Drove in from Little Rock. Same pre-race routine, a Gatorade, Powerbar, and a banana. Slammed a gu 10 minutes before race start.
Event warmup:

Swam 50-75m in the lake.
Swim

Comments:

PR for a sprint swim. This was the first swim I had where I was really comfortable pushing it in the water, especially after the last buoy. Water conditions were great, and the wave start kept the water from being crowded.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. PR.
Transition 1
  • 02m 7s
Comments:

Worst T1 ever. I signed up for this race last minute and had to borrow a bicycle. Unfortunately, the bike did not have clipless pedals, so I had to get into my running shoes on T1 which cost me some time. There was a big payoff in T2 for this however.
What would you do differently?:

Sign up early enough to bring my own bike.

Comments:

Not being able to clip in really hurt my time. I felt slow the entire ride. Not to mention, I'm a crappy biker anyway, and that makes for a really slow bike segment. The course was fine, nice and flat with some intermittent hills.
What would you do differently?:

More time in the saddle. Bring my own bike so I can clip in.
Transition 2
  • 00m 44s
Comments:

PR for T2. 3rd fastest in my age group and 22nd fastest overall. As I said before, I was biking with my running shoes on, so this was as simple as snatching up my hat and race belt, and running out of transition. Granted the conditions, my T2 will probably never be this fast again.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 26m 5s
  • 3.2 miles
  • 08m 09s  min/mile
Comments:

Average run for me. I had slacked on training on the weeks leading up to this race and it really showed in the run. I was a good 25 seconds behind my race pace in previous tris. Based on my conditioning, it could have been worse. I really liked the course though. Seems like most races keep the runs extremely flat...nice to finally see some hills, albeit small ones.
What would you do differently?:

Don't slack on training.
Post race
Warm down:

Some water and fruit.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Slacking on training. In race, I went as hard as I could.

Event comments:

I'm from out of state and most of my family lives in Arkansas. I came in town to race this with my brother, father, and father-in-law. We all had a great time. Definitely signing up for this one again.
