Swim
Comments: I felt like I was laboring all the way. Water was way too warm for a wetsuit and I wish I had gone without. I was roasting. Worst swim I have ever had. I have done this race a few times in the past - I think 2006 and 2007. Back then, they did something to the dam (turned it off I think)which resulted in a current free swim. It was much better then What would you do differently?: Not wear a wet suit. Transition 1
Bike
Comments: I was heckled and yelled at by a dozen drivers. A car pulled out right in front of me at 35 mph downhill causing me to utter what I thought were my final words (first word is "oh", second word starts with "s"), a family of deer crossed feet in front of me on another 40 mph downhill. We had to ride uphill past what I believe to be a semi truck gas station three times. Each and every time I had a semi feet from my back tire as I labored up that stupid hill at 7 mph. What a disaster! For each loop you had to dismount in transition, run your bike through and remount on a steep hill - what the &^%^%8&*0!!. The bike water station was 30 feet up hill from where you remounted on the steep hill. Provided you were clipped in and able to grab the slipperiest water bottles I have ever handled, I guess you were good to go. Worst bike and bike course ever. What would you do differently?: Do another race Transition 2
Run
Comments: The run course was boring but fine. Plenty of aid stations and great volunteers. After the day I had had thus far, I had a tough time on the run. I overheated and my stomach was full to the point that I was cramping. This is the only race I have ever thought of quitting on the run. The heat was prety brutal and there was not a lot of shade. What would you do differently?: Not much - it was just hot. Maybe dial in my nutrition a little better. Post race
Warm down: Walked back to the hotel and got the hell out of there What limited your ability to perform faster: Just a bad day. Event comments: Overall this is a very poorly organized race. A few years ago it was awesome, but it has dramatically gone downhill. I will never do this again. Last updated: 2012-04-06 12:00 AM

Walked my bike from the hotel to the race. Blew a tube pumping up my tires. Blew my replacement tube as I tried to change the tire. Bent the valve on my last tube as I hurriedly tried to change it and couldn't get any air in. I actually do know how to change a tire. Flat tire and out of good tubes 30 minutes before transition closes.
Warmed up by desperately trying to find the fix and repair crew that most races have in case of emergency so I could get another tube. Appparently this race didn't have one. Went to the race organizers for help, but they couldn't do much for me other than send me to the race announcer. Race announcer begged my fellow athletes to take pity on me and provide me with a tube or replace my tire for me. Yes, I am now "that guy". Two very nice guys from Washington, Pa (I believe one was named Matt and the other may have been named Dave) helped me salvage the tube I had with the bent valve and put air in my tires. These guys saved me and I am very thankful.
