Pre-race routine:

Drove to race. Arrived early. Checked my equipment and bike and sat around for about an hour.
Event warmup:

None
Swim
  • 24m 40s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 30s / 100 yards
Comments:

Easiest swim ever, even without a wetsuit. The volunteer who body marked me the day before told me not to bother bringing a wetsuit since there was no way the swim would be wet suit legal. Surprise - it was. It was my fault for at least not throwing my wet suit in the car, but it was a short swim, so no big deal. The current was particularly strong this year, making the swim which was 2/3 with the current easy. It seems like there was lots of contact though for a smaller race, and I got smacked in the head a few times. I knew I had a good swim when many of the people I exited the water with were from the previous wave.

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

I am generally slow in all three disciplines. this was the first time I ever got to T1 to find most of the bikes still there. I thought I must be in some reverse bizarro world.

  • 21.61 mile/hr
Comments:

I am a weak biker, and it is always my goal to just make it through the bike. Since this is my C race this year, I decided to push it a little and have fun with no thought to saving my legs for the run, which is my strength. I passed lots of people on the uphill portions and was passed by a few on the downhills. The road was clear, free of debris and well marked. My odomoter did not work, so I just rode by feel - which I will have to do more often since I had a pretty decent bike for me. I got off the bike feeling great. Loved the fact that the road was closed to cars.

Comments:

I had a great run. I'm training for the iron distance race at Rev 3 Cedar Point this year and I've been doing 2 bricks a week for the last 24 weeks. I had another bizarro moment on the run when i realized that there weren't many people out there when I started. the onIy people I saw were really athletic people going the other direction. I'm usually so slow on the bike that the run course is jammed by the time I get there My legs felt awesome off the bike. I just flew the whole way, passed everyone I saw, and never really kicked it into gear until the last 1/2 mile where I saw two people in front of me I wanted to catch. I caught them. Very flat course. Volunteers were fantastic. Only problem was the fact that it was open to non-racers and dogs

Post race
Warm down:

Got some water. Milled around and checked my time which was available almost immediately - very nice feature by Piranha Sports

What limited your ability to perform faster:

No taper. Tired legs from 24 weeks of Ironman training.

Event comments:

Great race. I set a 19 minute PR off my 22 minute PR from last year. Very well organized. The volunteers were great. Everything started on time. Very little in the way of post race food which is my only real complaint. I will definitely do this again

Course: Out and back on the riverfront trail. Mostly crushed limestone with some asphalt. Trail was open to non racers. The course was poorly marked in one spot where there was a split in the trail - I thin you were supposed to stay to the left which is unusual. hopefully they will fix this in the future
