Swim
Comments: The bib numbers are given out by estimated swim time. I was Bib 123 but there was no sense of order. People in the 300, 400 and 500's were mixed in before us. Having to pass the slower swimmers is always a big pain and wastes some tremendous time. I wish the race organizers would announce that the swim start needs to be in order. Some people I passed swam from the left side of the lane to the right and back and it was even harder to pass them. Once at the wall the stronger push off usually won. I must have passed 10-12 people before I left the water after 11 lanes. What would you do differently?: Trying to move up as far as possible in the group to get with the faster swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: This was my first triathlon with my new clips and bike shoes. I forgot to down shift my bike before transition set up and was in the hardest gear. The line to mount the bike was not clearly marked. The last races it was big and bold and there was no mistake in seeing it. I thought i was at the line got on the bike. I was told to get off the bike run 3 feet and then get back on the bike .... seemed kind of senseless to me. What would you do differently?: Downshift bike for a good ride start. It took me a while to get my heart rate strap on and for some reason the shirt kept on sticking to me. Next race I will use a different shirt. Bike
Comments: I tried to adjust my gears the night before the race. Very bad decision! Some of the gears I use frequently kept slipping. Very nice course! What would you do differently?: I will get my bike adjusted by the LBS before my next race. I will have to work on clipping in after jumping on the bike ... slipped a little. Need to work on that. Transition 2
Comments: 2nd transition went well. The Specialized Bike shoes with their fast leave system are awesome ... took no time at all to get them off. Zoot running shoes were on my foot in no time at all. What would you do differently?: Need to work on transition overall. Could be a little faster. Need to work on the feeling off coming off the bike and then running. Run
Comments: My right ankle started hurting about half a mile into the run. I had stomach cramps throughout the whole run. I could have run the course faster. What would you do differently?: Figure out nutrition for the race. Post race
Warm down: Walked a little bit, ate some very spicy breakfast food which was really good and had a Banana Muscle Milk and a Gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: Right ankle, Stomach cramps, improper pre-race nutrition. Event comments: Swim starts were out of order again. Race packet also said that bikes can't be taken out of transition until all bikes are off the course. While we were leaving to go to the car we almost hit a few people in transition that were still racing. If I was one of them I would have been mad. Last updated: 2012-04-09 12:00 AM
