Run
Comments: This was my first 10k so a PR for me ;-). I did run it faster than my two 10 k training runs so I was pretty excited. The start was an absolute mess and unfortunately I had to dodge strollers, wagons, beer kegs, dogs etc. for the entire six miles. It was terribly frustrating but it's a crazy race with some crazy people so it just is what it is. This is NO we are talking about. Overall it was really a fun race. What would you do differently?: Hopefully get to start before all the strollers, wagons, dogs etc. Race Officials swear they are going to corral start better next year. Apparently from reading the comments this has been a huge complaint with this race for the last 35 years so I'm not holding my breath counting on it. Overall, I think it's a safety issue but I run slow enough that it's just an aggravation for me and the race was worth the aggravation. Post race
Warm down: Crossed finish line smiling! That was huge for me. Joined family and went to post race party. Walked around enough to be a true cool down. What limited your ability to perform faster: Definitely having to dodge all the walkers who walked 4-5 across, the strollers, etc. Also had to sprint several times to get through openings and had to slow to almost a stop because couldn't get through sometimes. Made sticking to my pacing very difficult. Event comments: Seems odd to give a 4 with so many no's and below averages. You just had to be there. This is a charity race and a New Orleans tradition so lots of crazy teams/ people that give it so much character. The neighborhood homeowners stand on the route giving margaritas, shots, donuts, etc. People stop at bars for a drink along the way and the route is down some old New Orleans streets so there's so much than just a race to it. I hope to be able to do it again next year. Last updated: 2012-04-10 12:00 AM

Got up early, had coffee and protein bar and drove with family to NO for the race. Parked at finish line and rode shuttle bus to the start. Walked at a brisk pace for several blocks from bus drop off to start line. Perfect warm up.
