Overcast
Total Time = 5h 10m 54s
Overall Rank = 6/97
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 1/10
Pre-race routine:

Try not to freak out about the 53F water temperature
Event warmup:

Got in the water and was able to get in about 5 minutes of swimming and 'acclimating"
Swim
  • 40m 21s
  • 2112 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was able to swim very Straight and keep on course but the first few minutes were heads up and alternating back/free due to my inability to cope with the cold. After that things went pretty well.
What would you do differently?:

Harder effort for warmup so I hyperventilate then not while racing.
Transition 1
  • 03m 27s
Comments:

Fine compared to others I guess. I got dizzy and had to sit down to keep from falling over while putting on shoes. Course was too rough at start to risk flying mount.
What would you do differently?:

?
Bike
  • 2h 50m 37s
  • 56 miles
  • 19.69 mile/hr
Comments:

Had an awesome bike. Still unsure on climbing amount because various sources quote it so differently (my Garmin's raw data shows 7800' which is rediculous but the MapMyRide course is 3400' which is also rediculous) The most accurate correction of the data I could get came out to 4900' which seems plausable.
What would you do differently?:

Drink and eat more. Cold hands resulted in me taking in only roughly 400 calories on the bike, that is not enough.
Transition 2
  • 01m 11s
Comments:

Third fastest on the day!
Run
  • 1h 35m 19s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 17s  min/mile
Comments:

Running on empty due to poor bike nutrition but luckily I am too stubborn to stop.
Post race
Warm down:

Can you say donut holes and of course a little stretching

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nutrition and conservative bike pacing in hindsight.

Event comments:

Great venue and an awesome group of racers (stacked field for the size) and volunters but like anything new manpower was lacking. I will say though for the amount of help there was the event went astoundingly smooth.

Managed to keep the avg HR low at 148 while still making decent power (228 Watts). Very happy with my NP being only 240 Watts as well (VI of 1.05) considering just how hilly the course was and the 10-15% 2 mile decent in there.
