Swim
Comments: 7/30 age group; 6/17 weight class. Swim course was cut to 300m and waves were combined so there were twice as many swimmers on half the course. It was a melee. Bumped several in front, and some tried to swim over me. Nothing technical about it. Passed a lot of people but form was poor, breathing was worse. Didn't get into even a mildly efficient form until the last 50 meters. Transition 1
Comments: Long run from water to T1. Difficult getting to my stuff. Long run from T1 to bike start. HR was up too much from swim melee Bike
Comments: Weight class 5/17 rank. First leg into stiff headwind and I overworked, keeping HR red-lined. Probably not smart. Speed on the course was good, well over 20, it just the loss of time at beginning and end of bike loop that cost me time. Very fast with a tailwind on back stretch. What would you do differently?: I'm beginning to think my bike just might be too small. Doesn't make sense that I just can't seem to make up time on this despite my training. Transition 2
Comments: No real problems Run
Comments: 3/17 weight rank. Started out slow, still trying to recoup my HR from the bike, and hills were very present in first 1/3 mile. Once I settled in my pace quickened and the second mile felt great. Only passed once while I passed at least 6-7. Able to pick up the pace in the last 100m for a fast finish. Post race
Warm down: Powerade, banana, then breakfast at home just in time to beat the storm. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim was cramped. T1 was tough to access my stuff (the guy probably should've been penalized but no big deal). Just too weak on the bike Event comments: Good race to kick off the season. Great course with enough hills to challenge. Organizers made the right call as the skies opened just as I was leaving. Last updated: 2012-04-13 12:00 AM

Finally out of bed about 1 hr 15min before race start, ate 2 bananas and a granola bar. Heavy rain started just as I was getting out of the car, almost got back in and went home, glad I didn't. Picked out a nice isolated transition area.
None. Got my chip timer. Didnt want to get in the water bc I knew it would be cold. Just before I went down to start line a group of racers crowded into my transition area, setting up their leisure bikes, kickstands and all (really?). Wouldn't be a big deal except I had trouble getting to my stuff at T1. Then they announced the race would be cut short to a mini-sprint due to approaching weather
