Pre-race routine:

Injured with Platar Fasciitis. Did not train properly (longest run was 13-14 miles). Morning of race went well ... bfast at the hotel (bowl of Special K with fruit and yogurt, a pancake, and lot's of water). Even slept well the night before.
Event warmup:

Not much warming up. Foot still sore and didn't want to aggravate too much. Lots of stretching, not much running.

  • 10m 04s  min/mile
Comments:

See above. Wound up running from refreshment station to refreshment station ... just as motivation. I hurt and it was not fun by the end.
What would you do differently?:

Listen to my body when it tells me not to run/ train (PF). If not, then properly train.
Post race
Warm down:

Lots of stretching in cool-down area, but not much more. Couldn't really warm-down. Legs so sore, could barely walk back to the hotel. Foot/ Heel was killing me, legs completely cramped.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Improper training and injuries

Event comments:

Lots of runners, but well organized and run. Not much "backing up" on corners or throughout the race. Just didn't like the run/ course based on the above comments

Performance: Below average
Heart rate never went up too high. Never felt as if I were "over-doing." Wanted to start slow (8:15-8:20), but felt comfortable around 8:00 ... very comfortable. Kept pace through 15km, started slowing down around 17-18km (to about 8:20-8:30). Hit half at 1:47 (not a bad split, and better than expected, without proper training and sore foot). Right about 27km, totally crashed (foot started shooting pain and legs completely cramped, every time stretch one muscle, another would cramp). Started alternating traffic lights/ trees for run/ walk. At 35km (22 miles), just couldn't "go on." last 7km (4.5 miles), took an hour. VERY bad race. Need to learn to listen to my body (injuries) and properly train, or just NOT do the race.
Course: Nice race, well supported with lots of volunteers. Three bad places ... Casteau de Vincennes (around mile 7-9), minimal spectators through an ugly, sparse forest. One-mile tunnel along the Siene River (about mile 14-15) had NO spectators (not even going in or out), no light, and NO air. Very warm with no breezes. Mile 23-25 through the Bois de Boulogne, again, a sparse forest (mostly dirt), with minimal spectators and cheering, not much overall support during these three stretches. Other parts were really good and interest to run ... after all, it was Paris!
