Swim
Comments: Very unorganized at the start. I kept asking people their estimated times but clearly some people were not too realistic about their times. I guessed I would be a 5:15 and ended up with a 5:10 but had to pass at least three people to get that time. I felt strong throughout the swim. Probably faster first half then the last half though What would you do differently?: Move up in the race line so I am around faster swimmers. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition time for me. By far my best (only fourth race). The transition area was short so that helped the time. This was the first race I went sockless and that really showed in my T1 time. Struggled getting my Garmin watch on and started. I need to figure out a better way to handle the watch What would you do differently?: Strap the watch to my bike and don't worry about getting it on my writst in T1. Also need to see if there is a way to prevent it from going into powersave mode while I'm doing the swim. Overall very happy with the T1 but room from improvement Bike
Comments: Overall a pretty good bike. I was hoping to average around 20mph but I was a little slower than that. I should have pushed a little harder through the hills but I was worried about using too much energy. My cadence sensor wasn't working but I thought I kept a nice high cadence throughout the race The wind was mostly a cross wind with a bit of a tail wind out and head wind on the back. Passed by one guy around mile ten but kept him in site until the end. What would you do differently?: Use the heart rate monitor more to gage my output Transition 2
Comments: This was my fastest T2 so I must be doing somthing right. I felt a little slow getting my shoes tied but overall I was happy with the time Off: 1) Glasses, 2) Helmet, 3) Shoes On: 1) Shoes, 2) Hat, 3) Bib number 4) grabbed a GU Ran to the run-out What would you do differently?: Need to work on bike dismount, I come to a stop them get off the bike... easy seconds to be had here. Also I put on my race number in the transition, I can do this on the road jut as easy Run
Comments: Not a bad run. I was constantly trying to save energy for the hills at the turn around. They were tough but not too bad. I had my GU at the top of the hill. This was probably a little late in the game. I was glad I put hills in some of my trainng runs, I was able to recover from the hills pretty quickly By the end of the race I was able to sprint the last 200 yards and wasn't completely gassed at the end. I had more in the tank but mentally couldn't get myself to push harder. My goal was a 7:30 min/mile and I knew I was at that pace so that might be why it was tough to push harder What would you do differently?: Not much, listen to the heart rate monitor more and challange myself a little more Post race
Warm down: Tried to stay moving as much as I could What limited your ability to perform faster: I pushed myself pretty good throughout the race but there was room to push harder. Overall very happy with the results and my performance. Compared to last year I am very much ahead of where I was. I need to train more on the bike, I have a half marathon I've been preparing for so the run has dominated my traing so I'll need to balance that out a little more Event comments: Other than the unorganized and slightly late start to the swim, the race was good. Challanging but fun course. I will be back next year, its a good race to see how the rest of the season is going to shape up. Last updated: 2012-04-15 12:00 AM

Left Washington around 9:30, got down to Petersburg around 11am to meet my Dad. Would have like to get there a little earlier but Crystal had a 5k in the morning so we had to leave a little later than desired
Not much, just stretched and ran until I had a sweat going
