Pre-race routine:

Cinnamon bread with butter and sipped gatorade on way to race. One ginger tablet and one s-cap.
Event warmup:

Swam about 200 in pool.
Swim
  • 08m 31s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 08s / 100 yards
Comments:

Well, felt more relaxed this swim. I did take a blow to the head when a guy came swimming toward me on the wrong side. Still,I thought I swam faster. I had clear water right ahead of me and behind me and no excuse for a time that's 13 seconds slower than last time when I was panicked throughout the duration. I might have to come to terms with the fact that I am just a very slow swimmer.
What would you do differently?:

Swim faster, lol!
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

Only issue was helmet kept getting stuck on hair binder. Practiced jumping on to pre-clipped shoes but didn't try it in the race quite yet.
What would you do differently?:

Pre-clip shoes.
Bike
  • 47m 1s
  • 16 miles
  • 20.42 mile/hr
Comments:

Happy with bike. Felt like pace was comfortably hard. Legs got a little tired, which could have been from tough week at work (riding racehorses). Still, very happy being fastest bike of all the ladies.
What would you do differently?:

Drink! I didn't pick up my water bottle once. I need to work on this!
Transition 2
  • 00m 48s
Comments:

Got out of shoes while still on bike, but didn't flying dismount quite yet. Still a big step for me!
What would you do differently?:

Learn flying dismount. Check running shoes for objects beforehand (pebbles were in them).
Run
  • 22m 24s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 12s  min/mile
Comments:

Uncomfortable run. Was a little tired off the bike this time, and it was very hot (high 80 today) compared to about 60avg. Had one gulp of water at halfway. And had one major issue- started dry heaving at mile 2. Not sure what that was about! No tummy problems, just strange gag reflex. It happens every once in awhile to me and I just hate it. Slowed down, regrouped and felt fine 20 seconds later. Splits 7:10, 7:22, 7:29 and last little bit 7:15. Most people had slower runs today in the heat, wind and longer bike compared to last month. Still, 2nd of females- I'll take it.
What would you do differently?:

Probably try to avoid gagging! That cropped my style. And advice here would help, lol!
Post race
Warm down:

Jogged 2 easy, easy miles.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Gagging. Probably not taking enough fluids. And swimming slowly.

Event comments:

Love these races. And ended up being overall winner of the series and 2nd OA female in this race. Won a great TYR tri bag, Ironman supplements and a trophy. And bad dog spray to ward off menacing canines.
