![]() Run
Comments: An easy out and back course. My goal pace was 7:30 which I hit right on for the first mile, but then I pulled off a 6:51 for the second mile. I think I could have been faster on the first mile but I started too far back in the pack and it took a few minutes to work my way through everyone. What would you do differently?: Run harder the first mile and try to get a little closer to the start line. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: I still use cages so all I did was grab a quick drink, throw my helmet on, and head out. What would you do differently?: Not take a drink until I was on the bike. ![]() Bike
Comments: I thought it was a pretty easy course overall even though there were a few hills that wore me out. I passed a lot of people when I first got on the bike, but then I think all of people I passed plus some passed me. I'm very slow on the bike which annoys the hell out of me, but I'm working on it so hopefully I will start gaining some speed. What would you do differently?: I should have pushed harder on the flat parts of the course. On the easy flat areas I kept a good pace but could have gone harder. I was just trying to save myself for the hills and the second run. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Just racked the bike and took my helmet off. Running shoes already on. ![]() Run
Comments: I need to do brick workouts. I knew my legs were going to feel weighed down when I started the second run so I didn't want to go out harder than what I thought I was doing and blow up. It turns out I was going slower than what I thought I was doing. My first mile was 8:45 and I thought, "Oh crap! I have to hurry it up." I did hit my 7:30 goal for the second mile. What would you do differently?: I should have included a few good brick workouts just so I could learn to pace myself better off the bike. I also should have just went harder overall for the race. I still felt good after the race even though I hit my times, which means I probably should have set better goals for myself. ![]() Post race
Warm down: Just got some water and looked for my family. What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of training and race experience. It was only my second duathlon so I'm still learning what limits I can push on race day. Event comments: As stated above, this was only my second duathlon so I don't have a lot to compare it to. I thought it was well organized and a fun event. Last updated: 2012-04-17 12:00 AM

Got up at 5:00AM to drive to the race. Had a protein bar, banana, and Rockstar Recovery on the way.
Short run (maybe half mile) and a few stretches to get the blood flowing.
