Swim
Comments: Started near the back of the pack; fought all the way to the first buoy. Did more breaststroke than freestyle due to close proximity of participants; had to use sidestroke as well. Didn't feel completely comfortable in the water because there were so many people around. What would you do differently?: Practice more like the real thing; swim in open water once a week. Transition 1
Comments: Since I was riding my mountain bike, put gloves on; didn't really need them... took away from getting started; too much time wasted. What would you do differently?: No gloves. Bike
Comments: Mountain bike was very slow. Bike shifted hard and was just a bear to keep moving; definitely need a road bike. Not sure how shoes would affect it, but it was definitely below average from what I would be able to do on a road bike. Ate sports beans during first loop... slowed me down fiddling with the package; didn't need them in the long run. Energy expenditure wasn't enough to warrant usage. What would you do differently?: Road bike, no gloves. No sports beans or food. Drinking tube may be useful to keep pace going. Transition 2
Comments: Transition was ok; took longer than needed, considering I didn't change shoes. What would you do differently?: Watch videos on tri transitions. Run
Comments: Legs felt like bricks all the way to the top of the hill; didn't take water at turnaround point. Legs worked themselves out by the 2 mile mark; was able to push through to the end. Pace was less than 8 min/mile, which is better than an average run without all the other effort. What would you do differently?: More brick training to get legs used to running after the bike (brick feeling could have been amplified due to effort on mountain bike.) Post race
Warm down: No real cool down performed; ate oranges, drank sports drink. What limited your ability to perform faster: Mountain bike, definitely. Need to do more dual-even training, in order that events occur during the race. Event comments: Don't have too much to go on, considering it was my first event; enjoyed it and plan on doing another one soon. Last updated: 2012-04-18 12:00 AM

Ate decently the day prior. Morning woke up at 0420; drank coconut water. Perhaps had too much food the day before; didn't seem to be fully digested. Had 3 shot blocks 30 minutes prior to the start of swim.
Not much of a warmup; lightly stretched
