Run
Comments: Went out pretty hard just not very fast right now. Felt good the whole run, no mechanical or physical problems. Just one cup of water at the turn. I was 52 seconds slower than last year in this race. What would you do differently?: Just need to try to get a little faster. Haven't run anything but LSD since March and it shows in run splits. Transition 1
Comments: Smoking fast. I didn't do pedals on bike as the start is downhill and I wanted to be clipped in instead of messing with my shoes. What would you do differently?: nothing Bike
Comments: I chose to ride with my HED 3 wheel instead of the powertap. I used my Timex Bodylink to monitor bike speed but don't have any power data. No splits so you can't tell where you finish but I passed around 40 bikes and no one held a pass on me. Only one went by me, it was my (nemises) buddy Rolan who had passed in the first mile. I put him away at mile 3 and didn't see him again till the end of the run. I was 18 seconds faster than last year but 49 seconds off my PR on this course. What would you do differently?: I think I have tired legs from Gulf Coast and I can do better here. I have done this bike course 7 times and these were the best conditions (very little wind) ever so I have absolutely no excuses. I would also catch Rob (H13) on the bike so I can at least make him work on the run. Transition 2
Comments: Left feet in shoes. I got off the bike 5 feet from the rack so it was easier. For some reason I had a little trouble racking the bike but otherwise fine. I carried my water bottle like last week. That is my best purchase of the year. What would you do differently?: rack the bike quicker. Run
Comments: 29 seconds slower than the same race last year. Legs were okay, I am just slow. I pushed myself but just didn't have another gear today. I saw H13 coming back and congradulated him for whipping me. At the turnaround my old nemesis Rolan was on my heels and then I saw my friend John. Rolan caught me and we passed each other back and forth and he got me in the end. Thats 2 in a row for him. My buddy John is one of the 3 original members of the Manatee Express Relay team that I started triathlons with back in 2002. I have never beaten John and when I saw him I knew I had a chance. Coming up the last hill other buddies are pushing me in, one yells John's gonna catch you. I found another gear and held him off. John's training has been limited but he was still pretty stunned that I held him off. I also beat Marcy today, avenging her victories in the Mullet Man and Gulf Coast. What would you do differently?: just need to try to work on my speed. learn to hurt a little more again. Post race
Warm down: nothing really. Watched and cheered the other finishers in and drank a gatorade. What limited your ability to perform faster: lack of run speed work and recovery from HIM last weekend. Event comments: Best $15 race around. You get a tee shirt, a challenging course and quick results, and 3 deep age group awards. Race is part of a 3 race series. We have done some of the series each of the last 3 years and I highly recommend it. Our entourage had 7 racers and 4 of them got trophies. Our girls rocked, we had the overall female champ, along with 2 age group winners (way to go Marcy). Finally, way to go H13. I knew you were gonna get me soon but I really didn't expect a 4 minute whooping. Joann's cheering must have done the trick. Last updated: 2006-05-17 12:00 AM

Got up at 3:30 and left the house at 4:40. We had a 3 vehicle group racing here so it makes it alot of fun. Drive is longer then from New Orleans but were there by 7:00AM. As soon as the racks were assembled, I took the #1 slot and set up transition. Like last week we saw alot of friends from New Orleans who we haven't seen since we moved so prerace was very social.
Jogged 5 minutes are the little track.
