Swim
Comments: Thought my swim was going to be improvement over last year and wasn't. Still not bad. Thought I could go hard at the start and be first around the bouy in my wave, but had 4-5 ppl to contend with. Start was rushed because of the way they initiated the chips my wave. What would you do differently?: Keep breathing rythym more steady. Site a bit more often. Transition 1
Comments: Because of chip timing, this was a longer run with the bike than last year. I had a good T1. Swam in tri shorts, went shirtless and sockless, so not much to do. Vaselined the running shoes to slip in easy. Biked with running shoes and toe clips. What would you do differently?: Nothing. Bike
Comments: Tried to bike really hard. Was carrying a great pace for the first 6 miles until I made the first turn - first 6 miles was tailwind! A rude awakening. Still it was a good bike ride, I may have pushed too hard as we shall see... What would you do differently?: Use a lower gear and spin faster the last 1 - 1.5 miles. Transition 2
Comments: Fast T2 because of running shoes with clips. Only had to ditch helmet and grab race belt. I was pretty gassed and didn't run as fast as I should have with the bike. What would you do differently?: run faster Run
Comments: Couldn't find mile markers, but based on memory I was grooving a good pace for the first mile. Right after the short/steep hill my quads started tightening up. This slowly increased until I hit the trail...a steep hill section forced me to the side. When I tried to stretch my quad my hamstring balled up. OUCH! I limped along trying to walk it off and gradually built up to a gliding run again to finish. I had plenty of energy to push harder but didn't want to end up writhing on the ground. What would you do differently?: Bike longer/harder/more often. It's all I can think of that would cause that cramping. Post race
Warm down: Walk around alot, water, race-provided snacks, finally a beer. What limited your ability to perform faster: Cramps Event comments: Not alot of spiffs/giveaways in the race packet for this race, but it is one of the more affordable. This is really a very well-run local tri. Love it, will miss it if we don't make it back next year. Last updated: 2006-05-17 12:00 AM
