Swim
Comments: Felt very relaxed during warm up. HR spiked at the beginning of the race and I struggled to find my breath and a decent rhythm early. Was way wide at the first right turn but then navigated better. Found my rhythm and last 2/3 of the swim was fairly solid. Times were much faster this year. Not sure if it was a "shorter" swim or fact that wetsuits were allowed. Maybe a combination of the two What would you do differently?: Still clearly the weakest of the 3 disciplines for me. Transition 1
Comments: Terrible T1 time. Had alot of trouble getting my wetsuit off. My helmet had been knocked off my bike and put back on but chin strap was tangled so lost some time there as well. What would you do differently?: Wetsuit is great but you always lose time in T1 because of it. I'll still take a wetsuit swim anyday. Should have been 1:15-1:20. Bike
Comments: Solid ride. Could have pushed a bit harder. Leaving transition there were about 6-8 of us in a group that never really broke up through the whole course. No one was blatantly drafting just alot of back and forth up and down the hills. Marshalls rode alongside for about 4-5 miles. Throughout the ride I had to coast numerous times to keep from getting too close to riders ahead. No one in the group ended up with a penalty. Course bunched up when the sprint riders merged onto the course about 3 miles from transition. AP 215/NP 230 IF.89 What would you do differently?: I felt good and holding back some probably allowed for a better run. Good course. Transition 2
Comments: Much better...still need to shave a few seconds but tolerable Run
Comments: I was hoping to average 7:15-7:30/mile pace. Tried to start easy but felt good so fell into around a 7:15 pace. Water at first aid station and at turn around with a gel. At the turnaround I saw a guy in my age group about 100-200 yards behind me so that kept me focused. Pushed the last mile or so. Really pleased with this run. What would you do differently?: Nothing...this was about as good as it gets for me on the run Post race
Warm down: Walked around, visited with some people. Ate a little. Cleaned up in transition, took stuff to car and walked back for awards. What limited your ability to perform faster: Swim and T1 still need work but a great day for me. Olympic PR by 12 minutes. Event comments: GA Multisports did a great job. Moving the race from the heat of June to late April made for much better times. Everything was very well done. Last updated: 2012-04-23 12:00 AM

Up early for 20 minute drive from hotel to race site. Slept poorly as usual the night before a race. Had driven the bike and run course the previous day. Bagel with peanut butter, Ensure. Snacked on some peanut butter crackers while setting up. Transition was well lit, spacious and there was plenty of room for the bikes on the racks. Transition/race site was about a 15 minute walk from parking
Air temp at the beginning of the race was around 60. Got in and swam a bit to warm up and get my HR up a bit
