Run
Comments: Given the lack of run fitness this went reasonably well. Because I missed the start, I had to weave through a lot of walkers and stroller joggers at the start, but managed to clear most of the slower traffic in the first mile or so. Pretty uneventful first 6 miles or so, knee didn't hurt too bad fitness is just not there to go faster. Around mile 7, my entire right leg tightened up, which seems to happen to me when I'm having problems with my IT band. I had to back off the pace for a mile or so until it loosened up. Rest of the way wasn't bad, quads started hurting a little toward the finish. What would you do differently?: Not much other than not be recovering from an injury... Post race
Warm down: I decided to get a few more miles in with an eye toward Fargo in May, so just ran 3 more miles slow while waiting for the wife to finish up. What limited your ability to perform faster: IT band issues, lack of run fitness. Event comments: I enjoyed the course and had a good weekend visiting family. The timing of the race is great for a tuneup for a spring marathon too. They didn't have shirts on race day, but said they will be mailed. Gave them my address so we'll see if I get one. Wasn't planning on doing this race, as I've had ongoing IT Band issues the last 3 months and really haven't run much until the last few weeks, but my wife's family lives in the area and apparently I'm the favorite uncle (yay!), so I was along for the ride anyway. So I figured why not? It would at least give me some info on what I can reasonably expect to do at the Fargo Marathon in a month or so. The wife and I drove over Saturday, did hotel check-in and went over so she could do packet pickup and I could register. They were out of medium t-shirts, so we were told to grab them on race day. We wend to IHOP with the wife's fam, then relaxed in the pool for a while before bed. My ITBS was acting up all day Saturday so I wasn't really looking forward to the race. Worst case I would walk some, no shame in that. Race morning I felt better and tried to pump myself up a little. Weather was just the way I like it, cold and sunny.
Nothing really, we got to the start a little late, and I actually missed the gun while I was in the bathroom. Luckily it was chip timed :)
