![]() Swim
Comments: The swim was great, I was sighting pretty well so I never got off course like I'm prone to do. Once I got in front of these two guys that were giving me problems at the start I was good. This wasn't an "A" race for me so I decided to experiment a little and push the swim to see how things go later in the run. By the end of the race I don't think pushing the swim had any effect on the run leg. What would you do differently?: Nothing, and actually I learned what I should be doing which is not holding back so much in the swim. ![]() Transition 1
Comments: Probably a little faster than usual for me. I'm trying to really bring down my transition times. I ran to transition a little quicker with no problems and I used suit juice for the first time and it really helped the wetsuit come off nicely. What would you do differently?: Just gotta go faster! I can probably run through transition a little faster without it affecting the race. ![]() Bike
Comments: I also decided to push through the bike to see how it affects my run and it was extra hard because of the hills. On the first half of the loop it was either a headwind or coming at you in some direction that slowed you down. On the second half it was more in your favor so I was able to really get my speed up through the second half of the course. I don't think I ever felt my legs burn so much and I was afraid I overdid it and would be cooked on the run. What would you do differently?: I ended up doing well on the run so nothing different. From now on I'll be pushing the bike a little harder as I've learned from this race. ![]() Transition 2
Comments: Decent T2 for me but I think I can still do this a little faster. What would you do differently?: Hurry up! ![]() Run
Comments: I'm really happy about the run since it's a 2min PR from my last OLY run leg. I came out of transition really winded and was thinking, "uh oh, not sure if I'm going to make this one!". But, I just kept going...pretty winded the whole time and passing up a bunch of those that killed me on the bike. Pretty much kept the same pace throughout the run which I actually may have negative splitted but I have to go back and check...the last full mile was my fastest mile, though. I'm glad I decided to push the swim and bike harder than I normally would, I learned that I can still put a pretty decent run time. What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing, I really left everything I had left for the run and I paced it well and finished strong! ![]() Post race
Warm down: Waiting in the shade for friends to finish and munching on the recovery stuff they gave us. What limited your ability to perform faster: MAYBE only the fact that my first time back to swimming and cycling was the beginning of May and didn't do either since my last tri in October. Event comments: There were no aid stations to refill on the bike. While it didn't make a difference to me since I didn't even finish my own water bottle, there were many people that tool a lot longer out there who could have used a refill since it did start to get hot later in the day. Also, by the time I probably could have stomached a beer...they were breaking down the beer tent...much earlier than many racers were finishing! Last updated: 2012-04-23 12:00 AM

Woke up at 3:50am, had oatmeal, a banana, water, and sipped Gatorade throughout the rest of the morning. We left early enough to get there and not have to wait for parking and we didn't have to rush through transition setup, which was a nice change to our usual routine.
Not much, probably swam about 100yds in the lake.
