Pre-race routine:

breakfast - v8 fruit juice and total w/milk
Drip coffee
double helping of cytomax 10-15 mins before race start

Event warmup:

just streching
Swim
  • 15m 39s
  • 437 yards
  • 03m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

relax - breast stroke is ok
What would you do differently?:

not start at the very back - instead to the side
sight more
go in a straight line!
Transition 1
  • 06m 1s
Comments:

decent - relaxed - forgot gels - next time put them in bike shoes or in socks.

Running to start from T1 in sox = muddy sox. Glad I brought an extra pair! Go me!
What would you do differently?:

remember gels
don't dry off!
pick up the pace a bit
Bike
  • 25m 58s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 14.35 mile/hr
Comments:

A bit of cramping at the start - too much juice before swim.
bike felt good - a little sporadic but nice ride really
What would you do differently?:

less juice before swim - more on bike over the whole ride. TAKE A GEL AT THE START AND END OF THE RIDE.

More steady pace - try to make up speed on this part.
Transition 2
  • 04m 13s
Comments:

good - had to change sox - glad I brought spares.
What would you do differently?:

Get yanks.
Put gel in shoe as a back up for around mile 1.5
adjust hat while moving!
Run
  • 36m 28s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 11m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

weak first 2 mi - sports drink - then much better. Sprinted finish. You can wear headphones if you really want to.

Water on the head is as good as in the body.
What would you do differently?:

Gels! One at end of bike and maybe one mid run if needed.
Post race
Warm down:

popcicles! banana half and p-nut butter crackers, water
walk

What limited your ability to perform faster:

leaving gels behind, bad placement at start of swim, inability to swim in a straight line

Event comments:

The distance was too easy - but hey, it was my first tri and I needed the distance to be easy so I could figure out how everything works!

There were plenty of times i was not sure what I was supposed to do before the race, but once the race started everything was very well directed by staff. Good swag. PWO food/bevs OK. Popcicles ROCK! Pizza and vending machine crackers? eh - but standard.
