Comments: Nothing too exciting here, caught a guy about halfway through that I couldn't squeeze around for about 20 sec. but other than that no trouble with traffic. Pretty solid effort. Time included about 0.2 mi run to transition area, where the timing mat was located. What would you do differently?: Be more aggressive passing the guy halfway through. Transition 1
Comments: Good transition but had a lot of trouble getting clipped into shoes...probably lost about 30 sec. there. What would you do differently?: Clip in faster... Bike
Comments: Luckily the rain stopped, but roads were still wet, so I was still a little cautious on the turns. I had a bad bike crash last August in the rain, so I've been overly cautious turning in the rain since then. I struggled with the hills, probably because I've not been riding much. A good effort considering. What would you do differently?: Not much... Transition 2
Comments: Fumbled sunglasses taking off my helmet, other than that pretty speedy. What would you do differently?: Leave sunglasses in T2 when they fell off, it wasn't sunny anyway. Run
Comments: This was fun, it was the first shorter race I've done with a multilap run. I dug the format. Not my best effort, just haven't run enough lately due to knee problem to really go fast, but I had a blast anyway! What would you do differently?: Best I could do in the circumstances... Post race
Warm down: Drank some water and walked around. Found my wife (she was volunteering as the transition area coordinator), loaded the car, collected my age group medal, and hit the road. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knee issues limiting training. Event comments: Really liked the venue and the organizers did a great job in less than ideal conditions. Not their fault the race had to be delayed due to weather. I'll definitely be back if they have it again next year. Last updated: 2012-04-25 12:00 AM

So this off-season has been pretty craptastic for me, I hurt my knee in February and haven't been able to do much running at all and no intensity on the bike. It seems like it's finally getting better, but I didn't expect much in the way of performance for this race. My wife is a trainer at the W, so I wanted to do the race to support it because it's new and I think it has a lot of potential as a season opening event. It was unfortunate the weather wasn't better, heavy rain moved through about an hour before the start and actually delayed the start a bit. I just set up quickly and relaxed in the W until the start.
No warm-up due to rain and lightning in the area.
